Sorry guys, I gotta drop out :( just got confirmation that it would be too much pressure for me to draw with the little amount of free time I have that week.

But! Ripley has really grown on me so I'll make some pages later to introduce them as a regular character instead <3

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I'm so sad!

News & Events / VOID Rules update 2018
« on: Jan 03, 2018, 08:16 PM »
http://help.entervoid.com/site-rules-ettiquite/

We did a little refresh to Void's core rules. Nothing major has changed, but I'll go over what is different. This was to address some recent things that came up, and some questions that people had asked me recently. Most of these are the same or the wording has been changed slightly. I want to emphasize that these rules are here to keep void fair. We have to add additional rules when new circumstances arise. No one will be retroactively punished for anything. The VAST majority of Void's members don't need to worry. We are closing some loopholes and clarifying things and that will hopefully help answer some of the questions I've been asked recently. Again - if you aren't trying to pull anything shady then you don't need to worry. But these rules need to be there to keep competition fair. Rules now also list consequences for breaking them.  Here are some highlights if you don't want to read everything:
Here are some highlights if you don't want to read everything:

Rule 1 clarifies that you do NOT need to draw every character in a non-death match. You are now required to draw ALL characters, including your own, in death matches.

Rule 3 clarifies WHO you must kill or scar when multiple characters are involved

Rule 5 expands upon comic deadline rules

NEW RULE 8
Creating additional accounts, or urging others to join the site specifically to vote on your comics is prohibited.
Action taken for breaking this rule: If you are found manipulating votes, you will be banned from participating in battles for 3 months. Multiple offenses will result in a perma-ban.

NEW Rule 10
Characters that have lost a scar match cannot enter another battle until their design sheet has been updated to reflect the new changes.
You are expected to draw your character as they appear on their design sheet post-scar. While failure to draw a scar in a match is not considered a default, it is considered bad sportsmanship. Unwillingness to draw your character with the scar will have a negative impact on your chances of getting into tournaments that involve scars and will reflect negatively on yourself in the community.

NEW Rule 14
Tracing art is not allowed. You cannot trace art from sources that you did not create yourself. Using reference is allowed, blatant tracing and copying is not.
Action taken for breaking this rule: If you are caught tracing, your comic will be taken down and considered a default. You will be banned from battling for a period of time determined by the council – minimum of 1 month. Repeat offenders will be perma-banned from battling
Please please ask questions if anything is not clear

Curious on how you would make an entire comic like that - especially how would you depict your opponent properly?

I'm WORKING on an idea. I've lurked forever. Their name is Charkley. They're a Meme Genie.

I cannot draw, but I like messing with photos. I will try to make a comic. It is hard.

Yea, I've mentioned this before but we've just changed over our image hosting so we've had some weird stuff happen. Keep letting us know - but that's the reasoning behind this weirdness.

THE INCUBATOR / Re: Astrodile's Characters
« on: Dec 12, 2017, 07:39 AM »
I'm worried that their design as a monster is...Overbearing, and if so I'll switch to another character.
I don't think you need to switch to another character, maybe just simplify or clarify a little? My first reaction to the monster form is that he looks cool, but I'm a little confused. Are those super long teeth? How big is the mouth? Where exactly are the translucent fin things attached? Was this just a design you thought was cool or is it based on something? Maybe I'd work on your story a little because it's not really clear why he turned into a monster. I mean, making a more well defined story might help your design process a bit. Why does he transform? Does he hate it or does he embrace it? What are his goals? Ask yourself questions like that to flesh out your character.
But, your art is good so I'm looking forward to more! Just my thoughts.

Round 1 is up! Sorry to the people that were cut, it's always difficult to do that to you guys.

Reminder, since it was brought up to me:

YOU MUST KILL YOUR OPPONENT IN YOUR COMIC. EVEN IF YOUR COMIC IS UNFINISHED, YOU NEED TO SHOW THE DEATH FOR IT TO BE POSTED.
IF YOUR OPPONENT IS MORE THAN ONE CHARACTER, YOU MUST KILL ALL OF THEM.

FAILURE TO DO THIS WILL RESULT IN A DISQUALIFICATION!

We discussed making a server or channel, but we would really like for it to stick here on the forums. It's way easier to keep track of stuff here and look back on it, even though I know the chatroom makes things easier and faster we will want to keep stuff here if we can. Hope that's ok.

News & Events / Reminder about Voting
« on: Oct 19, 2017, 08:39 AM »
Reminder for all members:
You votes are monitored for fairness by Angieness and I.
I realize that everyone votes a little differently and has different standards, but voting in an extreme way is not tolerated. Yes, there are some instances where one side of a comic is amazing and the other side is unfinished and sloppy. In those cases, of course an extreme difference in scores makes sense. But, this is honestly a rare circumstance.

If you cannot vote objectively, your voting privileges will be revoked.

I acknowledge that creativity and entertainment are certainly far more subjective than quality. If you really hate a comic, you should definitely give it a low entertainment score. But, giving a really low score on a comic that is objectively well-drawn, complete, or polished just isn't going to fly. Yes, you may prefer one style over another and give a higher score to your preference, but you have to remain somewhat objective.

Again, everyone votes a little differently but I'm going to give a suggestion on voting fairly for new folks:

10 - AMAZING, one of the best comics you've read on the site. Could be professional work.
8-9 - Very good, maybe one or two things bothered you but overall still VERY good.
6-7 - Above average. Maybe a little sloppy or lazy in parts, but still good work.
5 - Average. Nothing too outstanding but it's not bad either. Definitely needs work, but there was effort.
2-4 - Really needs work. Sloppy, uninspiring, boring.
1 - Absolutely horrible. Almost no one uses this.

For quality, also consider the effort put into the comic. Was it clean and professional looking? Even if the artist is talented, consider docking points for sloppy work. Comics in the 9-10 range should be some of the most polished and amazing work on the site. Reserve the low scores for incomplete comics with minimal effort.

For creativity, consider the story line as well as any interesting visual elements. Was this a totally predictable comic? Did anything surprise you? Reserve the lowest scores for things that were totally uninspiring.

Entertainment is the most subjective vote. Did the comic get any sort of emotional response? Did you laugh or get upset? Reserve the lowest scores for boring and forgettable comics.

Let me know if you have any questions.

News & Events / NEW one-day extensions available
« on: Sep 19, 2017, 10:35 AM »
One day extensions are now available for FREE under these circumstances:

1. All involved parties must agree. The easiest way is to email staff[member=776]enterVOID[/member].com

2. The comic but be a REGULAR match. Tournament, scar and death matches cannot get the extension - these are still high risk comic types, and they will stay that way.

3. An extension hasn't already been used on the battle. Either use up a week extension or take a free day, you can't have both.

This is an attempt to help you guys out when last minute things pop up and you have trouble getting your comic uploaded. Please use this only when you really need to. You can also use the week long extensions that you have to earn if the situation is really dire.

News & Events / Staff Roles Explained
« on: Sep 02, 2017, 07:08 PM »
Quote
In the last few days, the staff has gone through some major changes, with more on the way. VOID has had plenty of staff changes and resets in the past, often without prior notice. The Council takes time as needed to reassess who belongs on staff and what roles need to be filled. The purpose of this announcement is to clarify these changes and what they will mean to the site and the community.

The Council has always juggled multiple roles to keep the site running smoothly. The purpose of additional staff members is to help contribute and ease these burdens. The current staff roles have been in place over 10 years: Council, Approval Committee, Forum Mods, and Think Tank, with Community Manager being the most recent addition.  Staff changes have historically occurred when the Council realizes things aren't working as well as they could be. The site thrives on people who are willing to challenge each other with a variety of opinions and viewpoints.

We understand that there is confusion about who does what and who to contact with your concerns. We want to clear up any ambiguity and confusion as well as allow new people to take on these roles. Former staff members are encouraged to apply for these positions if they wish to be a part of these new organizational changes.

VOID has always been a labor of love. As a staff member, you don't get paid, and you'll rarely be thanked for your work. Some people might think that being on staff will make them more powerful or important, but it won't. It's demanding and often frustrating work. This is why it is essential that our staff is working effectively to keep VOID alive and thriving.

The following are descriptions for each staff group as well as new roles that need to be filled. When in doubt, just send an email to staff @ enterVOID.com, and we will route your message to the best staff member or group.

Kevin
Kevin was one of the founders and owns the site. He has taken a less hands-on role in recent years and lets the Council make any major decisions. We consult with him on some issues, but he trusts the Council to run the site.

Council: Angieness & Red
The Council--with occasional input from Kevin--are the final authority. Few have ever reached this level or ever will as it requires Kevin's complete trust in decision-making skills and access to all the site's inner workings. Angie and Red have been on the site for over 10 years, earning this position through years of dedication and hard work.

Things Council does:
Address and resolve any problem that arises
Review and post comics for voting
Making the final call on character approvals
Review all tournament proposals
Create and enforce rules
Monitoring votes
Graphic and web design
...and all of the responsibilities of the rest of the staff

Community Manager - Kozispoon
Kozi is really great at being unbiased and fair. This is something that we really strive to be. She's always been a great welcoming voice to new folks. Kozi is the Lead Community Manager, and official welcome wagon. She works with the global moderators to keep VOID running smoothly.

What Kozispoon does:
Greet new people and answer their questions
Moderate the Discord chat and Forums
Weigh in on character approval decisions
Post comics when Council is unavailable

When to talk to Kozi: You can come to Kozi with any concern that you have with the community, or staff members. You can also ask her for help if you have any questions.

Global Moderators - CrackingSkulls & Shen
These two are here to make sure you behave. This goes for the chat room, forum, and comments. They have the power to boot, ban, delete, pin, move, etc. They are also there to welcome new members, and direct people to the proper place if they have questions. They also have social media access and promote comics.

Full discord chat powers - banning, booting, pinning, deleting etc.
Change the roles of members if need be
Welcome new members & answer questions
Banning spam bots on the forum (there are so many)
Moving and pinning topics
Answering questions on social media
Posting about events on social media

Event Coordinator - Pyras Terran
Pyras kind of took charge of events, so this was an obvious fit. His duties include:
Figuring out the tournaments people actually want
Setting appropriate dates
Releasing a calendar of events
Spreading hype on social media

To be clear, the tournaments will NOT solely be up to Pyras, he's just in charge of making them run smoothly.

When to talk to Pyras: If you want to create an event and have questions, or if you have questions about events.

Web Developer - Bobo
Bobo knows the backend of the site better than Angieness or Red. VOID is a very tricky website, and Bobo is there if something explodes. Since they also has full access to the site, they will sometimes fill in for Angieness or Red if they are really busy and can't post a comic in a timely manner. Bobo is not a member of the Council, but is deferred to when technical issues arise.

Social Media Manager - William Duel
Will is the one that has been reblogging everything on our Tumblr, and reposting all of the interesting stuff on our Facebook page. This is his main job, and he's good at it.  Other members have access to our social media, but Will ends up posting 99% of the content. Contact him if you want to discuss anything related to content on social media.

Note: There is a script that automatically posts links to Tumblr and Twitter when comics go up for voting and characters are approved.

News Writer - Yarnwitch
Finally, we have someone dedicated to putting out timely news articles. Yarnwitch will be writing the front page news which updates us on the current and upcoming events.

Comics Coach / Approval Committee - Petarvee
Petarvee's role is more of a teacher/mentor/guidance/critiquer than anything else. He will be responsible for giving out as many helpful critiques as possible, creating tutorials, guides and reference material for VOID artists. He will also do various other things like getting interviews with real-world industry people for us to read and learn from. Petarvee's job is to encourage the community to learn and improve. He will also be weighing in on character applicants.

When to contact Petarvee: If you need drawing advice, or if you'd like to suggest a tutorial or guide.

The biggest goal of these changes is to define everyone's roles in a very clear way. If anything is still unclear, please feel free to ask.
