Good battle on both sides. I thought Kumaru\'s was more dynamic and entertaining, Roadmasters was a smoother read.
I suggest for Kumaru maybe you could try some angles for your action shots from that clearly show the shapes of charactersso we dont get lost in the madness. Roadmaster I think you just need a few more details to your inks, plenty going on in your backgrounds and characters, but some areas were too barren. Not a lot of stuff, because you want things to read smoothly, but just a bit more to add interest.

Kumaru: I love your inks just too much! I think you could try though, draw sharpier, as most time they seem rather thick, but aside from that, it\'s just perfect, I loved what you did with the inks in the movement panels, and it worked wonders!  The story was cool too, I also wanted to know more about Julius, indeed! Gogogo!

Road: I think your style is going very cool, but I should advice you take more practice on anatomy! While I know Rex\'s arms are purely stylistical, most facial shapes are ankward, specially near the chin, and there are several other problems, like long, thick necks, and sometimes short limbs, like arms.
The action was very good, and funnily, the plot sounded a bit alike with Kumaru\'s, but that\'s just a coincidence really.

Overall, Kumaru gets a my vote for quality, but I like both entries so much!

Both were really good! I kinda wished that Kumaru\'s was a little cleaner, it just seemed a little toooo sketchy at some points, but overall it was really impressive looking. I did wish there was a little more Rex in the comic though! And Roadmaster, first off thanks for the cameo, we still have to battle dude! Anyways, I like the line widths that you had, and the inclusion of some nice detailed backgrounds. I think a lot of the anatomy issues have already been touched on, but I do think you do some really nice faces! And, I just love those robots so much! Thanks, both of you, for a good read :D

Heh, I just looked at the ref I used for panel 1 that I was talking about... yea.. that perspective in comparison is WAY off... there is barely any slope to be seen in the original photo.

Haha, never apologize for giving me a long-ass critique Phil. I appreciate them and love when people put in that time. I often get almost no response to my art (Rex somehow got pushed through pretty fast in the approval process) so getting such honest and thorough critique makes me quite happy.

Firstly, why does everyone want me to bring back Coalar? I realize the whole VCPD thing, but Coalar as a character was so... horrid....

I agree with you on the anatomy issues. I think my problem is I spent a lot of time drawing hands and faces in my practices, so I got a lot more used to getting those features in place, but don\'t get them in good context in the whole body. I\'m still weak drawing from my mind (as opposed to drawing from life or from ref). I\'d like to get back in a steady practice regime if I get the chance, but it\'s tricky finding the time.

One of my problems that Phil encroached on I like to refer to as my \"Egyptian complex\". I often end up drawing features in a way where I try to show the whole body part, because I don\'t handle issues like perspective and foreshortening well. That\'s part of the reason why I often end up with these shoulders kind of breaking off from the body or turning a feature to an odd angle. It\'s been a while since I paid proper attention to these things, so I definitely needed to be reminded of that.

Thanks for the tips Phil, I\'ll definitely keep what you said in mind as I continue my practices.

Angie, sadly that was from reference. It\'s partially from a photo I took from down the street. I know that street is on a hill but I probably went a bit more than it actually is.

I enjoyed Kumaru\'s fight, especially pg4. I love seeing that kind of motion and angles going on. I\'m glad I got the chance to fight against ya and hope to see a BB pursuing that backstory further.

Maybe it\'s because I am not familiar with either of your characters but I thought both entries were sub-par. The art is both is weak and the story, especially Kumaru\'s were confusing and clusterf*cked.

I gave the edge to Roadmaster because the ending was pretty funny and even thought the storyline was similar I think Road pulled it off more naturally.

Kumaru-I like how loose and expressive your style is! You do need to work on your backgrounds and things that aren\'t right up at the camera though. You had some really nice detail in the closeups, but anytime the camera moved out, it was lost. I realize things aren\'t as detailed if you move the camera away, but your overall quality goes down when you\'re not working with closeups, for example the 2nd through the 5th panel on the third page things looked pretty rough in comparison to other panels. Be careful with your speed lines as well, they\'re cluttering up the panels and making things difficult to decipher. But other than that it was a pretty fun read and I\'m looking forward to where you go with your art since this was a bit different from your previous battles.

Roadmaster-To me this was an improvement. You\'re getting better about using linewidths, your inking has tightened up quite a bit, and you\'re getting better at details. You still do need to work on your perspective, on shots like the first panel of the first page especially. (which is kind of a tough shot, never be afraid to look at reference photos to see how that would look) Anatomy wise it looks like your biggest problem is making the heads and necks far too wide and the hands too small. Fixing those issues would probably help your anatomy look more accurate, and from there you can work on the rest. While it wasn\'t the most unique story ever it got the job done and I found it entertaining.

Good job both of you, I hope you both intend on doing some more battles soon!

I\'m glad to see you two back on void and fightin\', but now here\'s my possibly biased opinions on these comics...

Kumaru: Best comic I\'ve seen in this fight, the inks and textures are golden. However those textures really did seem to make things amazingly difficult to look at and figure out. It took me 2 reads to see that he was attacked by 3 dogs, or two... at first I thought just one dog attacked. You gotta try to clean things up and make it easier to read for others. The only other thing that kinda didn\'t sit right with me was the whole nightmare thing. It might just be me not being familiar with the character, but it seems kinda thrown in to distract us from the bout.

Roadmaster: Why aren\'t you using Coalar! Help bring back the VCPD! It\'s nice to see you drawing again, but in all honesty, nothing has really changed. Things are cleaner, but your perspective in most panels leaves buildings and people look like they\'re about to slide down a hill from where they\'re standing, and characters like Julius appear twice as big as Rex in some panels. Also, you seriously need to work on your upper body anatomy here dude, mainly heads, shoulders, and arms.

You\'ve got the right idea for the human head and how it\'s built, but you\'re making them way way way too small here for where you\'re putting features like the eyes and mouths. Do not be afraid of making heads a lot bigger dude, trust me, smaller heads looks way more awkward than bigger ones. Also! Be extremely careful of where you place the eyes and mouths on a figure, half of the time Julius\' eye at a 3/4 angle was literally right next to his ear, and mouths do not go directly onto a chin. Other than that, I like the realistic quality you give these faces.

Shoulders here man are just way too stiff considering how often your characters are using body motions to talk in some panels. Don\'t just cement a shoulder joint into one place, they can go up and down, left and right, also I\'m not saying that they can go anywhere, but I figure you get what I\'m saying. Easiest thing to do when it comes to figuring out body emotions is to look at yourself in a mirror and act out what pose you want. Always keep in mind that it\'s not just the hands and face making the emotions on a character.

Last thing anatomy wise is arms, two Rules of Thumb to keep in mind when drawing arms: 1. the arm when hanging down will go past the groin (hand included). and 2. The forearm is shorter than the upper arm, but when folded the hand is able to reach your shoulder.  Meaning the length from your hand to the elbow is the same as from the elbow to your shoulder. I say this because in a few panels of characters up close, their limbs either suddenly shrink, or their forearms seem to grow an extra couple of inches. Now I\'m not referring to Rex here since his arms are deliberately drawn that way, I\'m referring to the others in this comic. Just keep those two things in mind when drawing up close, don\'t trick yourself into thinking you gotta show all of the limb either.

The story here... well... in all honesty it\'s nothing great dude. I thought it was funny that Julius got ran over, but it just seemed poorly executed in the end.

Sorry for the big ass critique btw, but vote goes to Kumaru.

KUMAS you insane my friend, the texture you get in your inks is DELECTABLY nice. man. Excellent stuff and Road you have a really interesting style and a lot of room to grow and develop it so YEA KEEP IT UP! I\'d like to see your style loosen up a bit but that\'ll come with time c:

They were both great. The ending was cool road. Kumaru, your whole story was cool but I have to mark it down a little cause i didn\'t really catch much of the other character like you explained. (You should have put the mirror bit in their too cause that was gold).
This one looks pretty even to me.
