Art Jams / Humans as Furries and Furries as Humans Jam
« on: Nov 26, 2009, 07:41 PM »
What to do:
Draw your human character as an anthromorphic animal, or your furry as a human. Whatever floats your boat.

Extra points if you draw them interacting with someone eeeellllssse!

--------------------------

I think this was Jacksters suggestion on the jam suggestion forum.. since I was drawing Gale as a gryphon anyway, XD Angie's making me pooost.

I'll finish darkening these lines later, I'm sick today.

Update: Edited out links because they were broken images. Sorry about that!

GO FOR BROKE! / Art Junk - Inker Bait
« on: Nov 18, 2009, 04:29 AM »
I can't find my original art thread and it's full of broken links and old crap anyway, so here's a new one and we'll just let the old one float into oblivion. XD

I need some inker feedback on this image. Shy-dog's stripes have been a problem since their conception and I've never figured out a viable way to tighten my pencils and give the inker an indication of where to ink, and where not to ink.

The stripes in this image are meant to not be inked in, so if any of you inkers could give me feedback I'd appreciate it.

Update: Edited out links because they were broken images. Sorry about that!

I'll be inking and coloring this myself later, but I guess if you want to use it for practice here's the large copy: X Some of the spaces in this image that look like they're supposed to be blacked in are actually not, follow the x's!

(Was definitely reading and thinking about Hellboy when I drew this.. I've come to the conclusion that on the unlikely day Shy-dog retires she'll find a crooked path to sit on and make a job out of telling people to go away)

Art Jams / Ethnic Expression Jam
« on: Apr 11, 2009, 05:41 AM »
Ethnic Expression! The point of this jam is to draw from the many human ethnic groups, to teach yourself the differences in facial structure. Mostly this jam should be about the human body and how it varies from ethnic group to ethnic group.. and especially partial toward expressions. But culture (Being a large part of creating a character from an ethnicity you're not familiar with) may also apply. That means clothing, dwellings, lifestyle, etc.
Anything that is a recognizable expression of a foreign culture. You're encouraged to try at least some human art however, once you know how to draw a building.. you basically know how to draw all buildings. Not so true with humans!

1. Pick an ethnicity that is not your own.
2. Try to draw that ethnicity, be it from photos or memory. If you can draw a Sudanese or Inupiat female, and set them apart from a Spanish or Native American female, I salute you. I salute you so damn hard. But you probably can't, SO TRY IT.

Examples:

I started with some Peruvian males of varying ages, drawn from images I found on google, and then moved on to an Inuit character of mine. Drawing the Peruvian males helped me understand the structure of the nose more, it's helluva hard to find Inuit photo reference. So worth the effort though!

Update: Edited out links because they were broken images. Sorry about that!

Ethnic groups that might interest you:

Peruvian
Haitian
African
Hispanic
Native American
Arabian
Indigenous Russian
Asian

The list goes ooon and oooon.. 'whites' also have their own ethnic groups. If you'd like to experiment with the differences between a French and Russian pair.
