DISCUSSION: Tournaments of 2017

Here are my current thoughts on the suggested tournaments above:

Tag Tournaments are awesome. I would love to work and collaborate with another artist. However, I am not partial to a death tag tournament or the specific lovechild theme. I think if we were to do the lovechild tournament it shouldn't be specially lovechild, it should be collaborating with another artist on a brand new character and entering them. If ya'll want to do your love children from the art jam then go for it, but I think it would be better suited as an open theme to co-creating a character.

Scar healing is an interesting theme. I'm on the fence about it. If executed correctly I feel like this could be a strong tournament.

King of Hell is basically Ragnarok minus the "god" theme. I'm not a big fan of it, but I do want see more annihilation matches.

Master of Disaster is basically every day in Void. I don't think its necessary.

I, 100%, back the idea of a new Armageddon! I think it's about time we saw a deadly threat come into the city and fucking ruin everything again. However, I think we should take petavee's idea of the Mini Arma and incorporate that. Doing something along the lines of 2008's Battle Royale/Royale Rumble where a group of veterans and novice members were put into separate, but on-going events. This way we could have two threats and twice the participation as we usually do. As if, the threat for the mini arma was a subordinate of the threat in Armageddon.

Now, I truly love the LSDT. I just don't think it can work with a theme such as this. It's about hectic speed and brutal deadlines. Creating a theme that changes with every round would just suck the authenticity out of the original idea behind the tournament. I think we should put the LSDT on the back burner for a year or two, and come back with a good ol' fashion Speed Death Tournament.

King Of Monsters would be super rad. I wanted to join it the first year it was introduced, but I never got around to submitting an idea. I do think it would work best as a death tournament though.

All Together Now would be super interesting and fun. I'd love to team up the likes of Dale or Margot with Harvey. I think we would need to have a Speed Death Tournament before introducing this idea so newer members with only one character can participate. After the invitational, we've had an array of new members and I'd love to not totally exclude them in this.

Under New Management also sounds like a fucking blast, just as long as you don't end up fighting your own character until the last round of the tournament.

I think a resurrection tournament is to soon. We should wait a bit longer before we revive it. haha get it? BRING IT BACK?! REVIVE IT! ... because you know, resurrection...

This Original Character tournament sounds fun. I know Rolfqu brought it up previously with me and I started digging through horrible art I made back in middle school. I think it would be fun revamping old cheesy characters and using what we've learned here to make them interesting again.

Newbie/Veteren Tournament was a great idea, but it wasn't executed in proper time. It should of been done immediately following the invitational.

Toon Death Tournament.... I hate toons. hahahaha. No, but really, it could fun. Not my cup of tea though.

In conclusion, these are my opinions about possible tournaments and ideas for the future. Whatever the outcome in the next year, let's try and draw more comics!

Hey guys, ya boy Rene here(i dont have a cool username like all of you :( )

i think the love child tagteam collab is pretty cool, even if its noncanon

i am really digging the Artist tourney idea from KarmaLarma, we can go crazy with that!

The Good Samaritan Tournament from petarvee is a pretty good idea considering all the city ending events that happen every week

The Mini-geddon is a hella good idea, its like the Armageddon Tourney is the Marvel Cinamatic Universe and the mini-geddon is the Marvel Netflix shows, the best of both worlds. I don't know, i see my character as small-time dude who participate in a Netflix show instead of the Big Movies, same universe just not to much interactive.

Rikun gave a good idea with the murphys law moonstone plan, make a mini-geddon with the moonstones and have everyone deal with it, not a city ending, but stories on how everyone is affected by it in some way. Maybe this can motivate the newer members to take part in a huge event without it actually feeling huge and overwhelming.

I'm always down for a TTT and not just because I can finally make good on my Tag Team Marriage with TDK (I won him fair and square dammit). We are well due for one and I think its a perfect time considering most people who do the Holiday comics also collab. TIME TO TEST YOUR BONDS

I would personally prefer a plain ole TTT but I think a Newbie/Veteran team up would be great (even if it means i lose TDK QQ) so that newbies can get a taste of competitive collabing so they have a point of reference for Arma (if it happens).

EDIT: I'm also a bit against a theme being used, unless the theme was open ended like Monster Mash. I'd rather not have 12+ people do a comic about a cooking show (or with the moonstones), especially if 10 of those people aren't super into the idea if its sprung on em. Let the personal creativity flooooow

Thanks everyone for your input, we have taken what's been said here into account and we have created our schedule of events for next year.

What we can say for now is that January will be free from any official events so use that month how you choose.

Every time y'all look for new tournaments, King of Monsters and Sentai always show up. And the weird thing is, they're always showing up in opposition to each other, but like, if two events should be merged, it's those fucking two.
Hey, genius, get some sentais to fight some monsters, why don't you.

What I personally want most is a tag team tournament, regular preferably. I also wouldn't mind a King of the Monsters, definitely no bias there.

I think a 'Redraw that battle' tournament would be an interesting concept, though I know it would be hard to do in a battle sense since the opponents have to be present in the comics. I thought it would work kinda like those "draw it again" post on dA that people do where you simply take an old comic and recreate it/redraw it/change the direction etc. where you could, potentially, have your opponent take place. I'm not too sure if there's anything outside the forums to showcase the improvement of people (other than just looking at their past comics) but, this could be a fun way to also help with the most improved award that I remembered seeing at one point on the site.

Sounds interesting, but I'd rather keep the 'Redraw that' to an art jam over an actual battle. I've a lot of battles I wouldn't mind redoing, but not as a tourney for sure.

And where did you spot the 'Most Improved Award'? I don't think I recall seeing one anywhere, unless I'm blind as a bat.

Oh, I remeber at one point there's mini awards for the year that usually go on the front page. I'm not sure if those haven't happened in a while or if they're less frequent than I thought!

273 Huntington Lane - Aka Rise of the Appliances.
Taking place within a single suburban house and it's yard, the participants are a wide variety of housewares given life. It might be a haunted hair curler, a demonicly possesed washing machine, a roomba that gained sentience, a lamp transformer, or a toaster that's secretly an alien space ship full of tiny other robots. an SDT With only one goal in mind, Be the last standing piece of houseware... before old Ms. Dimka returns from Bingo night.

Just an idea for a silly SDT

2017 is already under tow, but I'm gonna pitch these for future consideration:

-Magical Gore Fest-- Death Tournament OR Scarmageddon.  Submit/create a magical girl to participate.  Definition of "magical girl" can be as broad as you want.

-Tijuana Bible Collection-- Smut tournament executed in the stylistics of Tijuana Bibles: entries must contain no more than 8 panels.  Participants can create or submit a character to participate with; anything goes as long as the content is intended to be erotic.  Rounds are labeled as issues or volumes.

•King/Queen/Royal of VOID 20**•

(I believe we did this one last year, or some more time ago. It was fun, would like to see it happen again.)

•Tijuana Bible Collection•

•Rise of the masses•
(Original by Radji)

A speed death Tournament centered on Ordinary folks with no superpowers at all.

•Hell Tournament•

((Light) Speed Death) Tournament focused on Demons, demonic creatures, evil sprits and souls. Character who wins is proclaimed as Hell's Champion.

•Angel Mecha Cat Girls VS Demon Mecha Cat Girls•
(Original by Angie)

Link to Thread

•Royal of Lust•

Similar to Pitafish' Tijuana Bible Collection, just with no real limits on the panelling, or pages.

•Royal of Porn•
(Current Champion being Mamoru. But...)

Artist Smut Battle Royale.
Winner is considered Royal of Porn.Along with Mamoru, I guess.

•Speed (Crack)Shipping Tournament•
(Original by Rhimwill)
Works like a speed death tournament (without the death), but there has to be some sort of romance between your and your opponent's character. Nothing has to be canon, of course.

A couple people have suggested porn tourneys, but this would provide something more inclusive for people who like shipping but don't want to draw porn, as well as people who do.

Oh, if we're throwing more ideas out then here's one maybe for next year:

Speed Shipping Tournament

Whether it's fluff or smut, it'd be fun to draw some non-canon stuff XD

Also, the idea of a Speed (Crack)Shipping Tournament sounds fantastic. Fluff and/or Smut. I'm in.

I'm super for the idea of a speed crack shipping tournament. For obvious reasons, I'd prefer it to not be smut?
