Hi guys, reckon I need to check in here! First joined VOID 5 years ago (roughly 2 years after starting up drawing as a hobby) and attempted to submit a character that was rightfully declined - there was a lot I needed to learn, particularly with anatomy.

The feedback from the Council was very helpful, encouraging me to take my time and really try to improve before coming back. I would probably still be procrastinating on trying to join again if it wasn't for the Invitational (and Delya pointing it out on DevArt), which came as a kick in the ass to suck it up and take the plunge. Hopefully I'm a little more ready this time!

Thanks to some muscle development issues growing up I can't really hold a pen or pencil so all my works are drawn straight into Paintshop Pro with a mouse, using the brush tool... takes a really long time to do, so part of the challenge will be learning to speed up to get comic pages done in time.

Hello! I found out about this website last year I think, but I never registered because I think I was too skerd. But I saw Delya' post on deviantart and decided to finally try it out. I guess I'm just nervous 'cause I don't have much comic experience. I'm in Art school right now working on my degree in animation, but I don't think trying out comics will hurt any. After all, some of the first animators were comic artists.
I hope I'm able to learn a lot form the artists here!

I'm Thanan! This is my first time really dealing with forums, so that will be quite a learning curve. I've been wanting to join a comic battle site ever since I saw a tournament take place on deviant art years ago. My girlfriend saw Delya post about Void and we decided to join up. Finally I am jumping in for this tournament! Just submitted my character. Nervous, hope I get in!

Oh, I'm from Texas!

Ooh, I need to go on forums more often!
My name's Annie, I'm just about to graduate from high school, and I've always wanted to enter a comic tournament. I plan on majoring in programming and art history, and I am absolutely terrible at making comics, though I aim to improve and do my best! Also, I live in California.

Hi, I'm Nessa (not my real name) from Sydney, Australia. I'm not very good with joining forums, but I'm really excited to be improving my art skills on this website. I've been lurking around here for ages, and now that I have free time I want to concentrate on making comics.

It's great to have finally joined!

I've been here for ages but most people have no idea I exist, so here I am.

I am EE.  Hiemie and I are buds and he introduced me to this site a really, really long time ago.  Possibly as early as like 2003-04.  Not really sure.  At first I was just following his battles and stuff, then I made an account so I could vote on stuff.  Then I started reading non-Hiemie things, and so on and so forth.  Been lurkin the site for quite a few years now.

Always wanted to get into comics and stuff, but I'm a horrendous artist.  However, I am a writer, which of course only made it worse, as I do have a creative spark, and that compounded with my increasing familiarity with the site made not being able to draw suck all the more.

But then I got talkin' to RoflQu who said he'd always wanted to try to reform the site to where Writers could join too and team up with Artists and stuff.  After like literally a dozen false starts that fell apart due to one of us being busy, he hit me up out of the blue just days before the Invitational's registration end and, well, here we are!  I am tremendously excited about both the opportunity to finally be a full-patch Void member and also being the first Writer-only guy.  Other than Toast of course, but he's too busy eating babies and keeping the site going to do that regularly, I guess.

I felt like posting now because we're partway through my first battle and it's been very interesting.  I've written all forms of things (short stories, vignettes, screenplays, and I even dabbled in poetry a little), but I'd never written a comic before.  It has been quite a learning experience.  If I've learned anything thus far, it's that writing comics is an exercise in economy -- particularly with these one week deadlines!

It's now very easy to see why so many comics even in the professional world have a lot of pseudo-deus ex machina, highly plot-convenient coincidences, and so on.  Sometimes it just makes sense to shave off a bit of fluff that would make your story more plausible for the sake of nixing an unnecessary page or bundle of panels.  Still trying to find that medium between paring down your writing output and maintaining the soul of the piece you're working on.  Quite the learning curve.

Anyway, I love this site and I'm ecstatic to be a more active part of it after so long.  If anybody would be interested in pairing up with a Writer sometime (for one of my characters or maybe even one of yours), I wouldn't mind hearin' from ya.

I love the idea of a writer/artist duo actually becoming a thing here.

I'd welcome you, but it seems you outdate me here!

I should like to introduce now the featured artist of this evening's...ordeal. I'm sure that you will all agree without any hesitation that Underwoodwriter is the most brilliant creative genius the world has produced in almost 200 years, so perhaps a few words of biographical background might not be amiss. Endowed by nature with perhaps the most glorious baritone voice to be heard on an vaudeville stage since the memorable concert debut in 1835 of Millard Fillmore; endowed also with twelve incredibly agile fingers; Underwoodwriter has had a long and varied career in the field of entertainment starting with nine years at Harvard University...where it was that he first decided to devote his life to what has since become a rather successful scientific project - namely, the attempt to prolong adolescence beyond all previous limits.

Even before he came to Harvard, however, he was well known in academic circles for his masterly translation into Latin of The Wizard of Oz, which remains even today the standard Latin version of that work. A few years ago he was inducted...forcibly...into the Japan Defence Force and spent most of his indenture in Okinawa as sort of Army liaison to the Office of Naval Contemplation. About his service record he is justifiably... modest, but it is known that in a short time he rose to the rank of brigadier general. However, before he could acquire a tenure, he was discharged, and owing to nepotism and intrigue, he emerged with only the rank of Specialist 3rd Class, which was roughly equivalent to the rank of Corporal without Portfolio.

But to return to his career in show business: for several years he toured vaudeville theaters with an act consisting of impressions of people in the last throes of various diseases. I'm sure that many of you here tonight still recall with pleasure his memorable diphtheria imitation. He is generally acknowledged to be the dean of living national composers, and is currently working on a musical comedy based on the life of Franz Kafka. Without further ado - Ike  a.k.a. Underwoodwriter...

most of it is just vanity but hey... it's vanity week. Also I pilfered this introduction from my idol.

Introductions? Hm.

I am slothvert, which is not sloth pervert, which some have guessed, but sloth vert, which is the French word for green. Therefore, greensloth, which is the user name you can find me under at FurAffinity.net. I know this may scare some of you off! I assure you, although my gallery may be weird, it's also work-friendly. I encourage you to check it out some time, furry or no, because I'm pretty proud of a lot of the work over there.

I went to school for animation, and now make art professionally via freelancing. I'm more than happy to give feedback, or just talk art and inspiration with whoever wants to drop me a line. All my contact stuff is available through my profile, so feel free to hit me up! I am also on Tumblr & DeviantArt as slothvert, for those of you that are into that sort of thing.

All that aside, I'll be seein you all around! Looking forward to future posting.

New, came from DeviantArt through the voidchat room and decided to take part.  Fairly lazy with my art, make that incredibly lazy, and I thought this just might jump start my creative juices and actually get me interested in drawing in general.

Ooo, i didn't know this was a thing.  Was gonna get some sleep but...

Hello ppls of entervoid.com.  I don't remember how i found out about this site.  I think i was interneting and stumbled across the 2012 invitational, which looked like fun so now i'm here.

A bit about me:  I attended an art school for some time, then promptly failed out.  Luckily, I found work doing web design for a fancy tech company.  This was not very fun.  Then one day, the company was shut down, and I was free!  Now i am attempting the freelance game, and getting back into drawing things.  Horray for drawing!  Okay, i sleep now.  Good night!

Mnnh... Introductions..

I'm Finnish game programmer, who have been drawing for all his life, only seriously for three or four years now. I've never studied art - all teaching I had was about how badly I shaded that sphere, and I should never pick up art as a major - so not much.

I came here from deviantART, when I was looking for more channels to raid in dAmn, and accidentally clicked on VOID, only to get sucked right in. I was late from the tournament, but I think that's only good - I'd felt too rushed to attend on such a quick schedule, and I'm new to this comic.. thing.

I'm not going anywhere. Just getting better. I'm a good storyteller, but suck in making it fit comic format. I've written many stories, many lines and drawn random pictures, then I made few pages of comics and now I got here and I'm going to accept these OC fights as a challenge to get better at both storytelling and art plus comics.
If I dream of impossible, should I forget it?
