For anyone who hasn't heard already, neens and I are putting together a comic zine, and are looking for submissions. Comics, illustrations, recipes (the theme is sweet treats, btw).

  • While this is a cute theme, it’s not intended to be all ages! sexy things are okay, though ultimately it is up to our discretion. just be tasteful!
  • Hi-res images are encouraged! 300dpi and up (600 is recommended)
  • Please make new art for this! we’d rather have fresh stuff
  • we are planning to sell printed copies, and digital copies
  • Final page count is not yet known, since this is our first project of this nature! it all depends on submissions. this will also determine pricing.
  • We are not concrete in artist royalties yet, but we do want to make sure you get a little something! right now what we have in mind is free print copies, as well as splitting money from digital copies. money from print versions would likely go back into print cost.
  • The deadline for submissions is October 15th. That's like 3 more weeks or something!

You can email submissions to nina@dapshow.com! Let us know if you have any questions. I answer a lot of them on Twitter, @DAPshow.

Also, my bad if this is the wrong forum. This didn't feel like it should be posted in jobs, though.

Jobs / Graphic Design & Other Stuff
« on: Nov 02, 2013, 02:39 PM »
This isn't really comic related, but it is art related. And I like coming to Void first.

I'm currently in the process of trying to secure some web development projects, and might be looking for a team to help if I get some of these projects.

I'm mainly looking for graphic design: Logos (branding), icons, maybe some web design. I can do web design, so that part isn't vital, but if you are strong at this, I could give you a crack at it. I'm mainly looking for pros or people with strong portfolios for this.  Also, this probably isn't the best place to post this, but I would be needing back-end help as well, most likely. The language needed in most cases would probably be PHP, but I would be OK with using others (Ruby, Python, any JS based framework).

I don't know about budget yet, but I feel safe in saying the rate would be at least $20-30/hr.

:-*

Also, if you think you can provide anything else within this domain, you can hit me up, as well.

News & Events / CALLING ALL ARTISTS: Murder Mystery 2
« on: Oct 25, 2013, 03:57 PM »
We've all enjoyed bringing the dead back to life. Now, let's enjoy putting the dead to rest. There's been a gruesome murder on the outskirts of Void City, and it is up to you to solve it in:

Murder Mystery 2

What is Murder Mystery? It's a free-for-all tournament match, like a Battle Royale or Scarmageddon, where the characters are placed in the middle of a Murder Mystery (Think Clue), and have to solve it.

The Story
Fuchsia Express, a long-distance train that connects Void and neighboring cities (such as Shock, Enda, Fuchsia, Geno, "Your destination here", etc) is turned into a crime scene when one of its passengers appears to have been gruesomely murdered, leaving the passengers to try and solve it. Everybody is a suspect.

To get more of a feel for the event, read the Prelude to Murder Mystery 2.

The (NPC) Cast

The Victim

Croc Gaspard (AKA Investigator)

The Other Players

The Rules
  • Drawing Time: 5 weeks. Please note that Thanksgiving occurs within that time frame.
  • Minimum Page Count: 5 pages. And, remember, while big page counts are fun, quality over quantity. Try not to bite off more than you can chew. Barely there sketches and excuse pages will not be counted.
  • All contestants characters must be depicted within the submitted comic.
  • Must solve Andre Rand's death.
  • Optional: We aren't going to require that the NPCs must be included, but it is strongly suggested to do so.
  • Failure to meet the requirements will result in disqualification, as well as getting the stink eye from me.

Sign-ups will be the same as other tournaments. All you need to do is respond to this thread with your character's name and their avatar. Sign-ups end on November 6th. Unlike other events, we're not necessarily looking for a set amount of slot. That said, it will be 6 slots at the most. Contestants will be chosen with a vote from Mods.

If you've read the Murder Mystery 2 intro, you know that Croc Gaspard is now an NPC of Void. We encourage artists to sign up with him, if they want. It will be a first come, first serve basis. And artists must have done comics on Void to qualify. This does not result in automatic entry. If an artist signs up with Croc (or any other NPC for that matter), they will still be subject to the voting process.

Sign ups
1. Sugha with Lesdai Grahl
2. Magikura with Cue
3. justarhymes with JPOP
4. Miss Jetster Goddamn Fukken Jay with Johnny Patch
5. Ten Dead Kings with Meridia Oricon
6. Nothin with Koosh-Koosh
7. Ransom! with Moss
8. Tofubeast with Tiffany Dropkick
9. William Duel with VCPD
10. Coatl with Sonny del Salvador
11. Bobo with The Investigator

Jobs / Looking for (a few) comic artists
« on: Apr 13, 2013, 01:57 PM »
Good day, Void.

I am not sure how new Voiders are now collectively, but just in case I'll go the long route. A few years ago, Lysol-Jones, Wolfpuppy Jack, and I founded an artist studio type of thing, called DAPshow, where we could publish comics (both print + digital), and host webcomics. It was a great time, but we had to do real life stuff for a bit and fell off our games.

It's been too long - and we am bringing it back. However, we would like to publish some more traditional 'indie' comics (meaning mini comics and perhaps mini series).

What we are looking for:
  • Comics that are between 12 and 22 pages
  • We'd prefer limited palettes (for example: black+red+white, black+gray+white, teal+blue+white, whatever+whatever+white, etc)
  • At least 300dpi, 600+ preferred
  • Almost any page size (portrait, landscape, square)

What we are offering:
  • A fixed page rate / flat rate (It's all out of pocket, so it won't be a whole lot, but I'll try to make it respectable)
  • A percentage of the profits
  • Free distribution, publicity
  • + some other stuff

If you have some full colored stuff you would like to show, that is cool. We aren't going for any full colors yet, but would like to in the future.

If interested, send comics/examples/pitches to info(at)dapshow(dot)com. Please don't send complete comics (unless it is something that's already done, perhaps). If you have any questions - ask away.

We are going to be a bit picky with this, so don't get discouraged if you are rejected. It's still one step closer, and you will have a foot in with us for future anthology/zine projects.

PS: Void gets first dibs on this.
