Episode 17: SS Grand Prix

Today’s social challenge requires quick reflexes and a little bravery. The Strip Search Grand Prix pits our competitors against one another in a time-trail go kart race that proves difficult for many.

I was gritting my teeth the whole time, partially because I am super nervous about who's going up on the chopping block next episode, and because I could have mopped the track with those guys.

Fun episode! I'm pretty good at Mario Kart and can drive so I may have done okay at that challenge.

I really REALLY wanna see the next episode! I'd love to see how these guys act in a "Con" environment. It's the next best thing to being there. Being there. Being thereeeeeee....

Haha, aww Kinu. XD

I really loved this episode (and yaaay for Erika technically winning the race!). Also I need to go go-kart racing. That shizz looks like fuuuun. Also, WTH with Abby placing after openly admitting shes' a dirty cheat. Puh.

Really strong return from Lexxy winning this mini challenge too.

NOOOOOOOOOOOO! Not Erika! I'm pretty damn confident a seasoned web comic pro can bring down Abby though so I'm not worried.

Erika is probably going to win this one, so lets hope the snark is funny next ep.

Man that challenge looked like fun- even with all the judges being convention weirdos. Did everyone notice Katie drawing Skadie??? So cool!
I really hope Erika wins too. I dunno if I can handle her losing to Abby. >3>

Episode 18: Sketch for Tips

We return to Card Kingdom for Day 2 of Strip Search Expo 2013. We now know the Artists can set up a proper merch booth, but how will they perform in the other challenges that lie in working a convention?

Oh yeah I did notice Katie drawing her character! You can see the sketches on the spoilers page in case ya didn't know. I'm not sure though, as far as abby vs Erika goes, Erika is wonderful and hilarious, but Abby's sense of humor is up there! I've read her webcomics and they are so silly. I think she has a bigger chance with the judges if Erika can't pull out a good joke. This is pretty much the first time either one has been up for elimination so I don't know what their workspeeds are. With that said, I can't waiiiiit!

Well, one thing is for sure is this will have the moment I've been waiting for during the whole show. The tangent confrontation.

I'm probably the only one rooting for Abby haha.  I think Erika is going to win, but it's going to be boring if it's so one-sided.  I trust them not to be like "you get a free pass because we feel bad for you", but I genuinely find her super witty with a simple style to match it.  I would totes wanna be bros with her, and I hope this elimination challenge will help her out.

for the con-going experience, I would have died.  I don't think I could sketch out that quickly at all.  I thought it was super cool that Tavis ended up picking 2nd and 3rd from the challenge, just kind of reinforces that no criticism from the judges was a much better way to go.  No more cop-out voting.

No, I'm also rooting for Abby, but I'm also happy that we finally get the big TANGENT TALK.

The talk is tough, but it's something all parents have to go through with their artists.

Episode 19: ELIMINATION #6

She should not have won. Her comic wasn't terrible but I don't understand why they found it so funny. There wasn't even any sort of a punch line, it was just "I used the word penis". Erika may as well have played to her strengths and gone all out on the naughty theme since that probably would have made her win it. Erika's wasn't brilliant, but I at least found it funny and it was better drawn.

Sorry Angie, I know you are a fan of Erika, (I think shes really great too) but I have to disagree with you.
I found the flow of her comic very disjointed and I felt that the drawing just wasn't that good in comparison to Abby's which showed a better range of body language and Sherlock's deadpan expression was great.
Humour wise, both were certainly funny, its just Erika's disjointedness messed it up a bit unfortunately. :(

Either way, I love this programme. :D

Erika's little monologue in the car was so gorgeous... :')

I thought Erika's was a unique take on the theme that was fitting with her usual autobio stuff. Abby's to me seemed kind of cliche, maybe like angie put it: "she used the word penis," therefore humor. I laughed though.

I felt that Erika's was the stronger comic, but I'm not unhappy with the judge's choice, because it gives Abby a chance. Erika's already established as a pro and doesn't need this competition. I am not saying that should be a factor in judging, but it kinda balances out. Abby's got talent and deserves to move on, I think.

Abby's comic all the way. And I am shocked to be saying that. I agree with the comment about the flow, and the last two panels in Erika's were just not that effective either.

Yeah, ultimately Erika is already doing web comics for a living so she doesn't need the competition. Her saying she won't have birthday parties because she doesn't want to be around a lot of people is totally heart breaking since I completely relate a lot to her.

I was super happy for Abby, but honestly when I saw the comics I thought (and hoped that the judges would agree) that her strip was better than Erika's.  There was just something about the difference in humor, I guess.  Not in the level of humor, but in the type of humor.

I'm the kind of person who feels unsettled when too much detail about a real person is thrown at me, so while funny, Erika's comic made me a little queasy.  Not in any way is that a bad thing, but in terms of enjoyment, I felt Abby's was a great, light-hearted and fun take on the subject matter with the type of humor I relate to and enjoy most.
