Fenix looks great.  My vote's for no demon, just straight superhero since you're going with the Captain Void inspired design.

JAR!  Great to see some of your stuff here again.  I really enjoyed reading this and I thought it was very well thought out.  The only spot that I really had to look at something to know what was going on was the big monster's reveal.  I don't think I could draw that thing from the information provided in that shot, but it's a very minor quibble really.

The other thing I noticed is you seem to have intentionally given the captain three fingers, but he has four when he says "Oh my sweet, asteroid belt!".  Again, it's nothing major but it's just something to keep your eye out for.  I once drew a guy with two left feet for a submission which was kind of embarrassing.  I didn't even notice the fingers until my fourth or fifth time looking at this.

Great artwork.  You've really improved over the years and your work seems much cleaner and your lines seem even more confident than before.  I would LOVE to have another match with you here for old times sake.  I hope you're up for it some time.  Thanks for sharing this!

BTW, Orange.  That music is pretty slick.  The style reminds me of the Dragon Ball Z Hyper Dimension sound track.

If I could make any game it would look like this

with a 3 at the end of the title.

This is a wonderful thread!  I really like seeing what artists have inspired other people, and it gives us the opportunity to share a little of our enthusiasm for the artists we love so much.

Other than the first three these are in no particular order I guess.

Akira Toriyama's work especially through his run on Dragon Ball.  Whether it's earlier, more detailed work or his later, more economically streamlined work, he always inspires me.  He is my favorite artist of all time, but I'm sure he gets an unfair advantage for being able to take me back to feeling like a care free little kid.  Plus he wrote and drew all of Dragon Ball with only one or two assistants at a pace of roughly fifteen pages a week while designing characters and environments for movies, shows, games, etc. for a span of about ten years.  It's no wonder he got burnt out by the end of it!

Next up is the consummate professional, Joe Kubert.  This man is one of the best artists U.S. comics have ever showcased, if not the best in my opinion.  I think he was head and shoulders above his peers in the 60's and is still producing top quality work now that the rest of them are mostly retired.

Michelangelo.  I really probably don't need to say anything about him.  His work is put lightly as legendary.  I enjoy looking at his sketches even more than his sculptures and paintings.

Olivier Coipel is one of my favorite artists in comics at the moment (though it's been a long moment).  I try to emulate his use of blacks and cross hatching.  He also delivers a nice balance of detail and economy of line.

N.C. Wyeth illustrated books like The Adventures of Robin Hood and Treasure Island.  His work is always dramatic and full of life.

J.H. Williams III is the best artist out there when it comes to panel layouts.  I don't think anyone even comes close.  He showcases brilliant design sensibilities in his comics yet everything is still clear and easy to read.  He is my other favorite artist in comics today.

Alphonse Mucha was a Czech art nouveau painter.  His illustrations of women are wonderfully designed, graceful and packed with detail.

Stuart Immonen is an inspiration to me personally as well as artistically.  He's self taught like I am and he's still one of the best artists out there.

Masashi Kishimoto draws the best fight scenes I've ever seen in any comic.  His art in Naruto can be some what inconsistent at times, but when he's on he is on.  Those fight scenes are just insane though.  This is his Dragon Ball tribute.  I included it just because I love Dragon Ball and I think his style really works well with the characters.

Takehiko Inoue is best known for his series, Slam Dunk.  I think his art was okay at the start, but it was still too reminiscent of City Hunter which he was an assistant on.  Once he hit his stride and let his art develop into his own style he blew me away.  He's a fantastic artist and I wish I could draw just like him.

The variety of Street Fighter artists, but the primary SF3 designer specifically.  Collectively the Capcom crew is just full of amazing artists.  I wish they would draw comics!

The dust may have settled...but it isn't over for TODK....everyone should remember that the Heavyweight Title is transferable and any challenger that can beat him will walk away with the title.

Failure to compete will also see TODK relinquish the title and it will be up for grabs again. This is the first time we have implemented this function and I for one am quite excited about it.

Question about that:  How often does he have to battle in order to hang on to the title?  I'm assuming he doesn't have to accept every challenge thrown at him in order to keep it.

LET THEM COME

Oh, I will be coming after that title my friend.

Congratulations.  Your whole run through this tournament has been nothing but superb.  Wonderful work!

New here? / Re: INTRODUCE YOURSELF
« on: May 04, 2011, 01:57 PM »
Hey guys,

I think its appropriate to (re)introduce myself, since i have been gone for a long while,so here it goes for those who don't know me yet,

the Name is Stefan, living in the Netherlands,
27 of age nowadays, had a bit of a back fall art wise in 2001,which kept me basically far and away from art where in 2004 i picked it up again, which started pretty rough in the beginning but its coming along rather allright,..it may take some time to get back into void the way i wanna but,i am here purely for old times sake ,and basically to find a drive again in further developing my art.

nice to meet you all !

Ha!  Stefan!  Awesome to see you back.  Hit me up if you want to battle again sometime.

I understand that Toolio's not really a super stand-out character on his own when someone new looks back at his past battles.

I think part of the appeal for Toolio was that he really was Void's mascot.  He was THE cameo character.  So he didn't just show up in his own comics, but regularly appeared in other people's comics as well.  In that sense he kind of became a community character and became more than just any other character at the time.  I know that hasn't carried over, but it was very cool at the time.

Is the next round of the tournament the final round or we some how squeezing another round out of it?  I'm assuming it's a final three way match between all of the winners whoever they end up being.

I feel I should point out I'm not trying to start anything with Sheldon.  I'm certainly not holding him over the coals for something he said almost three years ago either.  I just thought it was a funny comment to make.

I'll add another:

-You've been at Void too long if it's been so long that you were here that you're suddenly a newb again when you come back.

YOU'VE BEEN HERE TOO LONG IF YOU REMEMBER WULONGTI, AND HOW HE TRIED TO TURN VOID INTO WARCRAFT.

This is a really great round, but the comments section is practically DEAD for all of the fights that are up now!  (Even the non-tournament fights.)  I'd really like to know what people think of all of the fights, not just my own.  Commence comments!

Me!!!

Just in case my previous post was overlooked due to its brevity or immaturity allow me to more appropriately say that I am also interested in being a Think Tank.  I truly appreciate this site and the varied and valuable criticism it provides to all of its artists by all of its artists.  I would like to give back to it in this way.

What kind of commitment/responsibility level is involved?  It's been a while since I've been a regular on the site so I may not be entirely informed as to what a Think Tank member might actually do other than be part of a brain storming committee.  Is there anywhere I can go to check out what is involved beyond what Toast mentioned in the original post?  Thanks.

Speaking as another competitor in the tournament I have 100% no problem with someone bowing out under these circumstances.  It would be another thing entirely if Orange was trying to bow out of the current round but that's not the case.

The other rounds haven't even been scheduled yet and next round was going to be two three way fights anyway, so really up to two people could bow out and the tournament would continue without a hitch.  So again, I'm completely fine with it if that's what happens.

A side note:  I would be excited to face Orange if it worked out that way, but I'd want a competitor that was in position to give it their all.  I applaud you for bringing this up in advance and not simply defaulting later on.
