Take advice from somebody who knows. You can't get ahead by following the course requirements. There are plenty of ways to get life drawing in without taking the actual class. Going to the mall and doing gestures is one way. Getting friends and family to pose for you is another. Even drawing yourself in front of a mirror would help.

Drawing classes are helpful tools, but in the end you're still teaching yourself.

Just a few things. Some nicer scans of some of that earlier work and a bit of new stuff. Mostly working on a beyond battle right now, so I don't want to give TOO much away. But there's a strip club involved.

See?

Repost from that art jam.

That's it today.

Got a two week open challenge up. But I'm willing to discuss other terms. Come on guys, just give me something to do besides make dinner and watch Doctor Who after work.

Wow, it's been like a whole year since my last post. Huh.

And now the most recent recent images.

Ah ha ha, my scanner is 1500 miles away and my camera is a piece of shit. At least this will give me more time to get familiar with my wacom tablet.

HOLY JESUS WHAT AM I DOING

Anyway I have an Open Challenge up, 2 weeks. I haven't played around with Todd Boggart in a while and I'd like to give the void thing another go. So COME FIGHT ME GUYS

On that last picture her neck is kind of discombobulated. (I can't believe I spelled that right on my first try.) Look at where her shoulders are. There's waaaay more space between the neck and the far shoulder than the nearer shoulder. It makes it look as if her her head is sitting on top of her arm. Her neck is twisting too far as well. Seriously, try it yourself. It's uncomfortable.

On a general note, try letting some of your characters slouch some, or at least relax their shoulders. They look really stiff.

Make sure you guys read and vote on my comic with jhalton next month!

Okay, art dump...

Early version of a 'psychic' raygun I was working on.

Finished version. I took out the talon things because I didn't like them.

My friends and I have weekly art challenges. This one was to draw a Disney villain. My main two complaints were "Hades is too short" and "Cerberus doesn't look like Cerberus." I actually knew both of these things while I was drawing them but... I was lazy.

None of my friends liked this picture.

They liked this picture but I don't.

I picked the topic for this challenge. "Illustrate a scene from your favorite book." I picked a scene from the Song of Ice & Fire series and decided to practice crosshatching to boot. Only three of my friends did anything though because apparently it's too difficult to pick a favorite book. Good to know. Next time I'll have you draw a triangle and save you the energy.

I really like this one. I'm showing the black & white though because I hate the colored version however.

This is a little older, maybe last summer. I'm going to show it here because otherwise it's just sitting on my computer for no reason. My idea behind the picture was "Draw something that's sort of creepy and eww." It icks me out. Mission accomplished. I actually have a creepier one than this, but I never want to be associated with it. Ever. (I'm not a prude, I just don't want that emo teen tone. You know the one.)

Ending on something I like. I wanted to practice my black & white last week. I usually feel pretty naked without some color on my work so I wanted to do something that was supposed to be just inks.

That's it!

Hey, I'm looking for a fight.

Todd's got an open challenge set up. 4 week battle, standard, but if you want to discuss other terms, I'm flexible.

Should it matter as long as it shows your skill set?

Maan, I hate scanning large images. I can never get the lines to line up right.

I usually end up touching up the busy parts with my Wacom.

To draw this picture I used two DVD covers, three episodes of the X-Files, and a handful of Craisins.

« on: Feb 24, 2009, 01:18 PM »
Hi. Do we need an introduction? Or are we cool?

Whatever. 24. Female. Graduated with a BA in animation from Art Institutes International MN and am working as a deli clerk. Currently living at home. Looking into going back to school to gain something more lucrative.

Yeah, fill in the blanks.

But I really love art and, you and me? Gonna have fun.

This is the only time you'll see sketches. Promise. Promise. Promise. After this I'll work hard to turn out finished work that actually improves my work rather than self-indulge in the things I like drawing. Because that is the TRUE path to great skillz.

Please, if you can guess what Adult Swim character I think that panda-boy looks like, I'll love you forever.

Designing a biosuit. Not married to the mask design...

For my mom.

For my anime-loving friend.

That is all.
