Wow, Critique, everyone can do that right? no.

Here's some cool tips for how to critique.

1) know your facts
2) base your critique on facts
3) if you don't know facts, inquire about those facts

Bonus tip) you can be tough, and critical about others art without being a jerk about it.

unlike critique, the process of making art isn't about facts, it's about making shapes on paper, so it's 100% understandable that some people don't know how to critique even if their art is great. so keep that in mind, if you're great at art you still don't know everything.

Thanks.

spit spat, time to chat / I would like to discuss exposition
« on: Jan 11, 2017, 12:49 PM »
Merriam-Webster.com defines exposition as;

1
:  a setting forth of the meaning or purpose (as of a writing)
2
a :  discourse or an example of it designed to convey information or explain what is difficult to understand
 b
  (1) :  the first part of a musical composition in sonata form in which the thematic material of the movement is presented
  (2) :  the opening section of a fugue
3
:  a public exhibition or show
expositional play \-ˈzish-nəl, -ˈzi-shə-nəl\ adjective

"Exposition." Merriam-Webster.com. Merriam-Webster, n.d. Web. 11 Jan. 2017.

I've been discussing exposition with more than one person over the past few months and I've come to understand that either I, or they, or any of us, actually know what exposition is.

given the definition by Merriam Webster I take the stance that exposition in the contest of storytelling is the explaining, the telling, of "the meaning or purpose" or - facts.

I strongly believe in the "show don't tell" rule, also known as "show as much, tell as little, as you can." my favourite authors use this amazingly well. Tadd Williams, Neil Gaiman, H.P. Lovecraft.

Frank Herbert isn't the best at it but he's definitely up there in the heavyweights.

Basically I believe that the less I need to tell the audience in a visual medium, the better. I try to keep my dialogue as accompanying or as a mood setter more than anything. Not that I'm good at it, but it's what I aim for.

What do you think?

THE INCUBATOR / Citronrobotlords characters -
« on: Jun 18, 2016, 09:14 PM »
I'm joining the invitational tournament, so I know Baby barbarian will get in but I have some Ideas for other characters. as you will see in a moment, and I want to start work on them sooner than later so that they can be ready down the road when I take a break from Baby

That being said I would like to refine Baby Barbarians character sheet to update after the tourney as well.

I'm going through a lot of study in colour theory (tonal shifts) and muscle anatomy, so I find my artwork is sometimes suffering and sometimes I feel like I'm making the best work I've ever done, if it looks like I'm not giving my all please consider that I might be making mistakes due to confusion.

so for those who don't know, this is baby barbarian!

EDITED: This is a redraw I just finished. anatomy is probably still wonky, but nothing I can see with my incomplete knowledge, Yet.

my anatomy studies have already pushed me beyond this, and I'm really embarrassed about it. :\ regardless I'd like to hear any critique that might exist? (I'll post the intro comic I made for him in the first post)

and here is the idea I've had for a newer character.

His name is Shane and he was part of a biker gang until a secret government experiment filled his body with nanotechnology capable of projecting his consciousness outside his body. Now he's a walking security risk and has to watch his back every moment.
