« on: May 01, 2011, 04:00 PM »
I'm able to start off a few days early and give extra drawing time thaks to Red submitting a design ahead of schedule...that's how she rolls cousin.

Last Months MAS Jam can be found here; http://entervoid.com/board/index.php?topic=11623.0

Just as before this will work as follows; an original character design will be presented. Character Designs will consist of either a turnaround image or front and rear view images (at least one must be in colour) and a short biography.

Artist Entries will consist of a pin-up  or splash page containing the monthly character design. Entries will(hopefully) be submitted to me by e-mail before the deadline. DON"T POST THE ENTRIES HERE.....E_MAIL THEM.

AS WITH ALL ART JAMS THIS IS OPEN TO ALL FORUM MEMBERS

These entries will be posted in the thread by me after the Deadline and forum viewers will be able to vote by poll on their favorite along with any comments.

The winner each month will then be asked to submit their own original design for the following month.

VOID M.A.S. April 2011
Character Design submitted by RedRevolver

Anne Boney the Slash (Named by William Duel)

Anne doesn't know where she belongs. She adopted a few customs from her pirate and ninja background, but identifies with both cultures. Not being able to decide which planet to live on, she left home and became a wandering badass, slaying evil around the universe.

The entries are in and voting will continue until May 26th to decide the winner. The winner will then provide their own original character design for next month.

Question. If one makes an original drawing here, can the character still be submitted for the normal acceptance procedure?
Every day should be an adventure

I think what Alberto is asking is that the winner who provides the design, if s/he likes the design enough can s/he submit it as a void char on the main site?

Are we supposed to chime in in the thread before the choices arrive?
I mean, wasn't having it up in the air as to which submission is who's part of the voting at the end?

That's why they're numbered and not named right?

idk.

These are all real fuckin' swell. Nice work, I'm having a tough time deciding.

Funny though, with everyone here having such distinct styles, I think I can guess about 90% of the "anonymous" artists just by looking.

Good job you guys! These are all looking pretty slick.

I have a suggestion though:
could there be a standard size for these things? Some of them are pretty big to look at and I'm not just talking about artist I.

yeah, I have to agree. I had to scroll waaaaaay over just to hit the reply button. I think at least a max width of 700 or 800 pixels would be reasonable?

Also, great entries, everyone!

guess its up to me to get the ball rolling on the comments and crits - first of all thanks to everyone who took part....big showing this month and you all did a great job so the least I could do is give you my response;

Artist A: you would really benefit from greater variation in your lines...as well as giving greater visual interest for your audience it would provide better definition of your forms....but a nice dynamic shot if not a little standard.

Artist B: 'Barrels of Yum'!....this is a fun image as well as a humorous take on the design but it is made very awkward by the impossible positon the figure is taking....there is no way she could sit like that for any length of time.....even with ninja pirate powers on a Jetson chair

Artist C: very nice lines and overall a nice drawing...the hat is a bit slapped on however...it is very awkward and not well planned out....this is only made worse with the size difference between the hat and the head

Artist D: nice emotion and dynamic pose...for me personally the digital 'marker' lines hurt this a lot however.....but what really stands out against it is the midsection....the angles are really off....her midsection should be twisted/swivelled and not as shown here....when doing action poses try taking the pose yourself and pay attention to where and how your body moves

Artist E: very well rendered overall...the underlying structure is a bit off in the torso and breast...but the texture etc. are very well done......its just not very exciting...visually or dynamically....you are falling into the trap a lot of digipainters drop into.....rushing thru the underlying sketch into the digi-paints...but if the structure is off...you can only fix so much

Artist F: very nice illustration all around....good use of lines and visual interest and good use of texture and colour

Artist G: I see this and I think paper cut outs for some reason.... and i for one would like to see you go 'tits out' with that in future pieces

Artist H: interesting shot...but the halftones are choking the image and really make the digipaint planet conflict with the rest of image....there is too much going on and conflicting in the rendering of this image....pick one thing and go with it...if this was all 'handrawn' with a little less liberal half tones it would be a much stronger image

Artist I: the image would have been a lot better if it was more complete..it just isn't enough on it's own...even a little more complete....I know this is a thing you are exploring....it just isn't working for me

Artist J:nice lines and fun interesting pose.....the arm is awkward....it is very difficult if not impossible to hold your arm that far away from your body in that postion....same advice as Artist D; try holding poses yourself and see how they work........the face really kills it for me however...its just too long and cartoonish....everything else is soo well crafted and almost elegant in its crafting and the face just isn't
