News & Events / Heavyweight 2021
« on: Jun 24, 2021, 09:39 AM »
Heavyweight 2021 sign ups are starting now!

What is Heavyweight?
It is one of the oldest events on EnterVOID to crown the heaviest of the heavy-hitters the site has to offer! The winner will be awarded the Heavyweight Champion title until the next event in 2023! Fight for one of the most glorious trophies you could earn on Void!

The event has evolved over the years. Here's how it's going down this year:

- The comic drawing time will start on July 1
- Sign ups end June 28th
- Drawing time is 5 weeks (Ends August 5) - 1 Round only
- Battle Royale style with a maximum of 8 people

If we have less than 8 entrants, the battle royale will include everyone. Since HW is a tournament that caters to heavy hitters with the most difficult battle type the site has to offer, we’re going to be extra particular about entrants to help ensure a strong showing. If we get more than 8, we will use your previous comics as a guide on who to cut. Factors will include number of recent defaults and incomplete comics and comic quality.

Rules:
- You must include all opponents in your comic - failing to do so will disqualify you
- Drawing time cannot be extended
- No page limit or minimum
- Single entries only (no teams)
- No character borrowing

Prizes:
- Heavyweight Champion 2021 title on Discord with color change
- Heavyweight Champion 2021 title on character's profile

Sign up by posting in #heavyweight-2021-signup on our discord!

News & Events / EXTINCTION EVENT
« on: May 03, 2021, 07:14 AM »
The Extinction Event is a site-wide event with the ultimate co-owned character.

Oleander is a free-to-use character that is owned by you, and everyone else. Their backstory has been created, but the rest is up to you to create through comics.
https://entervoid.com/character/2898

You can draw a battle as Oleander’s artist, or you can fight against someone else drawing Oleander.

How Oleander fits into your character’s story is up to you. Maybe they have been friends for years before extinction. Or perhaps they killed someone close to them? Are they trying to stop them, or simply survive? How will the story end and what will it mean for VOID?

Oleander can be in several battles at once with many different characters. Imagine an Armageddon threat, but we get to see all of the individual stories happening around the city.

Is this a tournament? What’s the point?
It’s exactly not a tournament, it’s more of an “event”.
The point is to have a collaborative and collective storyline told by the community from many different angles, art and writing styles, and ideas.

Void has no set canon, but we as a community often incorporate events, such as Armageddon and Election Royale, into their character’s stories. Tournaments are often limited to a certain number of entrants, so this is your chance to jump right into the main event, on your own terms.

How do I participate?

There will be 3 phases:
- Dawn of Extinction
- Impending Extinction
- End of Extinction

Matches will start May 10th
Sign up to be randomly put into a 1v1 match, either as Oleander, or against them.
Comics will be 1v1 standard matches

Sign up in #extinction-signup on Discord
Post the following information, and you will be randomly assigned an opponent:

Character: [Your character] or [Oleander] or [Either one is ok]
Drawing time length: You can set your preferred drawing time, putting a range is best. For example: “I’d like a 2 week drawing time but up to 4 weeks is ok”.

All Dawn matches will start at the same time.

It's up to you to chip away at their life bar to bring them to the final phase. You can jump in and fight at any time in any way that you like!

Matches will be set up by request, in pretty much any arrangement you'd like. Collaborative comics are encouraged. For example, you and another artist could team up with two of your characters to fight against two others drawing Oleander. Post in #extinction-signup on Discord if you are seeking out a partner for this round.

Once Oleander's HP bar reaches the end, we will enter the final phase.

The final comic will be a collaborative comic with all users who want to participate.

Team up together to put an end to Extinction and craft the ending of Oleander's story together. A private channel will be made for participants to plan the comic together.

·:·.☽✧    ✦    ✧☾.·:·.

What is the HP Bar about?
The HP bar is shown on the site, and can also be seen in #extinction-updates
It shows Oleander's current HP. When it is depleted, that means the final phase will start.

How do we attack the HP bar?
Drawing comics will attack Oleander and deplete her HP. Oleander starts with 200 HP.

1v1 Matches
Oleander Win: 10 HP
Oleander Loss: 15 HP

2v2 Matches
Oleander Win: 25 HP
Oleander Loss: 35 HP

3v3 Matches
Oleander Win: 40 HP
Oleander Loss: 50 HP

For the calendar this year we have decided to list the priorities of each event when it comes to choosing entrants.  Each event will have its own criteria for how it determines who gets a spot and here’s a brief rundown of what each priority means:

Record Priority means that staff will take the weight of your record into account when choosing cuts and the specifics of these cuts are announced in the rules leading up to the event.  (i.e. this may include incomplete submissions, collaborative records, defaults, etc.) We do not factor in wins or loses, simply the quality of your recent work and effort shown.

Open Priority means that the event is open to one and all regardless of record but needing a Battlepass at minimum.  As long as you show interest, you’re welcome to join.

Selective Priority means that the event has specific limitations based on character traits and/or race.  (i.e. toons only, magical girls, fantasy races, etc.)  If the number of entrants exceeds the tournament restrictions then selection will default to record priority.

Score Priority means that we take the same things that record priority takes into consideration, but we also factor in your scores on quality, creativity and entertainment. This is usually reserved for things like Heavyweight and Armageddon events.

We wish to point out that while these events have been decided by staff with the hopes that they will be fun and entertaining for the community, unforeseen circumstances may cause the schedule to change.  In certain cases such as lovechild if roster limitations are not met, the length of the event may change and it may not run the full length indicated on the calendar year.

As always we welcome event ideas by the community and we will do our best to accommodate and moderate such events.  If there is an urgent idea you wish to attempt, members are always welcome to petition and find enough entrants to do closed events where entrants are not decided by staff.

News & Events / Looking for some new Think Tanks!
« on: Oct 10, 2018, 08:24 AM »
Do you have thoughts and feelings about VOID? Do you have big ideas? Do you want to want to want to help shape the future of VOID by contributing your opinions? Do you want to scream directly at the VOID instead of screaming into an empty void?
Well, consider applying for......
THINK TANK!!!
You duties will include: Bringing new ideas to the table, contributing your opinions on new things, coming up with solutions to problems. I may also ask for help with minor tasks that I expect you to at least help with a little such as helping debug or test new features. I need people with various opinions that aren't afraid to have discussions and disagreements.

I'm not sure exactly how many we will accept at this time, but we will make our choices based on how we see you interact with the community and what we think you can contribute. Think tanks were always intended to be a rotating cast, so we are need some fresh blood.

If you'd like to apply, you can email staff @ entervoid.com or just message me directly here or on discord if you're interested.

Art Jams / Evolution Jam 2018
« on: Feb 12, 2018, 08:15 PM »
Pretty simple - I drew a creature, and the next person draws the creature, but evolved a bit a few thousand years later. Maybe it grows wings, maybe it loses it's stupid arms, maybe it decides to eat meat and turns into a predator? It's up to you.

Rules:
1. The point is to evolve slowly, do NOT make huge jumps! Make small steps so we can develop this creature together over many drawings.
2. Sign up and draw quickly. When it's your turn, please turn in a drawing within a few days. If you want to shuffle or trade your place in line, just let us know.
3. Keep it somewhat realistic please. Don't add like, laserbeam eyes or chainsaw hands.
4. Optional but strongly suggested - add some flavor text to your drawing! It will help the next person in line See below.

Our creature is about 12" high, and covered with feathers. It spends a lot of time in shallow water. It's long legs keep most of it's body dry. It likes to keep it's head up to catch falling debris from the forest above. It mainly eats bugs and vegetables. It is pretty vulnerable to predators, so it tends to lay a ridiculous amount of eggs to keep it's population from dwindling.

Sign up below! First person to post can start drawing right away.

Art Jams / Blind Date Jam
« on: Feb 12, 2018, 07:35 PM »
This is going to be a little different from some other jams. It will be like a micro tournament, except just for fun.

Sign up here - You have until February 14th - AKA Valentines day.

On that fateful day, I will assign you another person. You will then draw ANY of your characters, dead or alive, with ANY of your assigned person's characters on a blind date. Make it as romantic or as awful as you want!

This is just an art jam, we won't upload these to the site. Suggested length is 1-2 pages, but you can do more if you feel inspired. Put in as much effort as you'd like/have time for. Post the comics here when completed, there's no real deadline but try to have them completed within the week so we are still in that Valentine's day spirit.

News & Events / VOID Rules update 2018
« on: Jan 03, 2018, 08:16 PM »
http://help.entervoid.com/site-rules-ettiquite/

We did a little refresh to Void's core rules. Nothing major has changed, but I'll go over what is different. This was to address some recent things that came up, and some questions that people had asked me recently. Most of these are the same or the wording has been changed slightly. I want to emphasize that these rules are here to keep void fair. We have to add additional rules when new circumstances arise. No one will be retroactively punished for anything. The VAST majority of Void's members don't need to worry. We are closing some loopholes and clarifying things and that will hopefully help answer some of the questions I've been asked recently. Again - if you aren't trying to pull anything shady then you don't need to worry. But these rules need to be there to keep competition fair. Rules now also list consequences for breaking them.  Here are some highlights if you don't want to read everything:
Here are some highlights if you don't want to read everything:

Rule 1 clarifies that you do NOT need to draw every character in a non-death match. You are now required to draw ALL characters, including your own, in death matches.

Rule 3 clarifies WHO you must kill or scar when multiple characters are involved

Rule 5 expands upon comic deadline rules

NEW RULE 8
Creating additional accounts, or urging others to join the site specifically to vote on your comics is prohibited.
Action taken for breaking this rule: If you are found manipulating votes, you will be banned from participating in battles for 3 months. Multiple offenses will result in a perma-ban.

NEW Rule 10
Characters that have lost a scar match cannot enter another battle until their design sheet has been updated to reflect the new changes.
You are expected to draw your character as they appear on their design sheet post-scar. While failure to draw a scar in a match is not considered a default, it is considered bad sportsmanship. Unwillingness to draw your character with the scar will have a negative impact on your chances of getting into tournaments that involve scars and will reflect negatively on yourself in the community.

NEW Rule 14
Tracing art is not allowed. You cannot trace art from sources that you did not create yourself. Using reference is allowed, blatant tracing and copying is not.
Action taken for breaking this rule: If you are caught tracing, your comic will be taken down and considered a default. You will be banned from battling for a period of time determined by the council – minimum of 1 month. Repeat offenders will be perma-banned from battling
Please please ask questions if anything is not clear

News & Events / Reminder about Voting
« on: Oct 19, 2017, 08:39 AM »
Reminder for all members:
You votes are monitored for fairness by Angieness and I.
I realize that everyone votes a little differently and has different standards, but voting in an extreme way is not tolerated. Yes, there are some instances where one side of a comic is amazing and the other side is unfinished and sloppy. In those cases, of course an extreme difference in scores makes sense. But, this is honestly a rare circumstance.

If you cannot vote objectively, your voting privileges will be revoked.

I acknowledge that creativity and entertainment are certainly far more subjective than quality. If you really hate a comic, you should definitely give it a low entertainment score. But, giving a really low score on a comic that is objectively well-drawn, complete, or polished just isn't going to fly. Yes, you may prefer one style over another and give a higher score to your preference, but you have to remain somewhat objective.

Again, everyone votes a little differently but I'm going to give a suggestion on voting fairly for new folks:

10 - AMAZING, one of the best comics you've read on the site. Could be professional work.
8-9 - Very good, maybe one or two things bothered you but overall still VERY good.
6-7 - Above average. Maybe a little sloppy or lazy in parts, but still good work.
5 - Average. Nothing too outstanding but it's not bad either. Definitely needs work, but there was effort.
2-4 - Really needs work. Sloppy, uninspiring, boring.
1 - Absolutely horrible. Almost no one uses this.

For quality, also consider the effort put into the comic. Was it clean and professional looking? Even if the artist is talented, consider docking points for sloppy work. Comics in the 9-10 range should be some of the most polished and amazing work on the site. Reserve the low scores for incomplete comics with minimal effort.

For creativity, consider the story line as well as any interesting visual elements. Was this a totally predictable comic? Did anything surprise you? Reserve the lowest scores for things that were totally uninspiring.

Entertainment is the most subjective vote. Did the comic get any sort of emotional response? Did you laugh or get upset? Reserve the lowest scores for boring and forgettable comics.

Let me know if you have any questions.

News & Events / NEW one-day extensions available
« on: Sep 19, 2017, 10:35 AM »
One day extensions are now available for FREE under these circumstances:

1. All involved parties must agree. The easiest way is to email staff[member=776]enterVOID[/member].com

2. The comic but be a REGULAR match. Tournament, scar and death matches cannot get the extension - these are still high risk comic types, and they will stay that way.

3. An extension hasn't already been used on the battle. Either use up a week extension or take a free day, you can't have both.

This is an attempt to help you guys out when last minute things pop up and you have trouble getting your comic uploaded. Please use this only when you really need to. You can also use the week long extensions that you have to earn if the situation is really dire.

News & Events / Staff Roles Explained
« on: Sep 02, 2017, 07:08 PM »
Quote
In the last few days, the staff has gone through some major changes, with more on the way. VOID has had plenty of staff changes and resets in the past, often without prior notice. The Council takes time as needed to reassess who belongs on staff and what roles need to be filled. The purpose of this announcement is to clarify these changes and what they will mean to the site and the community.

The Council has always juggled multiple roles to keep the site running smoothly. The purpose of additional staff members is to help contribute and ease these burdens. The current staff roles have been in place over 10 years: Council, Approval Committee, Forum Mods, and Think Tank, with Community Manager being the most recent addition.  Staff changes have historically occurred when the Council realizes things aren't working as well as they could be. The site thrives on people who are willing to challenge each other with a variety of opinions and viewpoints.

We understand that there is confusion about who does what and who to contact with your concerns. We want to clear up any ambiguity and confusion as well as allow new people to take on these roles. Former staff members are encouraged to apply for these positions if they wish to be a part of these new organizational changes.

VOID has always been a labor of love. As a staff member, you don't get paid, and you'll rarely be thanked for your work. Some people might think that being on staff will make them more powerful or important, but it won't. It's demanding and often frustrating work. This is why it is essential that our staff is working effectively to keep VOID alive and thriving.

The following are descriptions for each staff group as well as new roles that need to be filled. When in doubt, just send an email to staff @ enterVOID.com, and we will route your message to the best staff member or group.

Kevin
Kevin was one of the founders and owns the site. He has taken a less hands-on role in recent years and lets the Council make any major decisions. We consult with him on some issues, but he trusts the Council to run the site.

Council: Angieness & Red
The Council--with occasional input from Kevin--are the final authority. Few have ever reached this level or ever will as it requires Kevin's complete trust in decision-making skills and access to all the site's inner workings. Angie and Red have been on the site for over 10 years, earning this position through years of dedication and hard work.

Things Council does:
Address and resolve any problem that arises
Review and post comics for voting
Making the final call on character approvals
Review all tournament proposals
Create and enforce rules
Monitoring votes
Graphic and web design
...and all of the responsibilities of the rest of the staff

Community Manager - Kozispoon
Kozi is really great at being unbiased and fair. This is something that we really strive to be. She's always been a great welcoming voice to new folks. Kozi is the Lead Community Manager, and official welcome wagon. She works with the global moderators to keep VOID running smoothly.

What Kozispoon does:
Greet new people and answer their questions
Moderate the Discord chat and Forums
Weigh in on character approval decisions
Post comics when Council is unavailable

When to talk to Kozi: You can come to Kozi with any concern that you have with the community, or staff members. You can also ask her for help if you have any questions.

Global Moderators - CrackingSkulls & Shen
These two are here to make sure you behave. This goes for the chat room, forum, and comments. They have the power to boot, ban, delete, pin, move, etc. They are also there to welcome new members, and direct people to the proper place if they have questions. They also have social media access and promote comics.

Full discord chat powers - banning, booting, pinning, deleting etc.
Change the roles of members if need be
Welcome new members & answer questions
Banning spam bots on the forum (there are so many)
Moving and pinning topics
Answering questions on social media
Posting about events on social media

Event Coordinator - Pyras Terran
Pyras kind of took charge of events, so this was an obvious fit. His duties include:
Figuring out the tournaments people actually want
Setting appropriate dates
Releasing a calendar of events
Spreading hype on social media

To be clear, the tournaments will NOT solely be up to Pyras, he's just in charge of making them run smoothly.

When to talk to Pyras: If you want to create an event and have questions, or if you have questions about events.

Web Developer - Bobo
Bobo knows the backend of the site better than Angieness or Red. VOID is a very tricky website, and Bobo is there if something explodes. Since they also has full access to the site, they will sometimes fill in for Angieness or Red if they are really busy and can't post a comic in a timely manner. Bobo is not a member of the Council, but is deferred to when technical issues arise.

Social Media Manager - William Duel
Will is the one that has been reblogging everything on our Tumblr, and reposting all of the interesting stuff on our Facebook page. This is his main job, and he's good at it.  Other members have access to our social media, but Will ends up posting 99% of the content. Contact him if you want to discuss anything related to content on social media.

Note: There is a script that automatically posts links to Tumblr and Twitter when comics go up for voting and characters are approved.

News Writer - Yarnwitch
Finally, we have someone dedicated to putting out timely news articles. Yarnwitch will be writing the front page news which updates us on the current and upcoming events.

Comics Coach / Approval Committee - Petarvee
Petarvee's role is more of a teacher/mentor/guidance/critiquer than anything else. He will be responsible for giving out as many helpful critiques as possible, creating tutorials, guides and reference material for VOID artists. He will also do various other things like getting interviews with real-world industry people for us to read and learn from. Petarvee's job is to encourage the community to learn and improve. He will also be weighing in on character applicants.

When to contact Petarvee: If you need drawing advice, or if you'd like to suggest a tutorial or guide.

The biggest goal of these changes is to define everyone's roles in a very clear way. If anything is still unclear, please feel free to ask.

News & Events / Pin Heart - Pins & Stickers PRE-ORDER
« on: Aug 08, 2017, 09:52 AM »
VOID HEART STICKERS & PINS PRE-ORDER

They will look something like this.

Ok, here's the deal. I'm going to need everyone to read this carefully so we can make this work. Please, let's make this as smooth as possible, friends.

PINS:
I am going to collect PRE-ORDERS on pins, since they will cost a significant amount of money and I don't want to front it for you guys :P
PRICE DEPENDS ON HOW MANY PEOPLE ORDER THEM. I NEED TO ORDER AT LEAST 100.

I'm not trying to make a profit for VOID on this order, so the price will be low. Please make sure you can commit to a price of $6-$15 a piece + shipping. If you are outside of the US, you'll need to pay a bit more for shipping.

If there isn't enough interest, I won't order them because it would be too pricey. Extra pins will be put aside for an eventual swag shop.

If you are super tight financially, think about it before you put yourself on the order form, because if you back out I will end up eating the cost and I will be sad.

YOU CAN ORDER AS MANY PINS AS YOU'D LIKE.

STICKERS:
I already ordered the stickers. They were cheap, but I don't have that many.

Stickers are limited to ONE PER PERSON and they are FIRST COME FIST SERVE.

They will be $1, shipped to the US, $2 international on their own. I can also stick them into your pin order for $1, just let me know if you want one.

HERE IS THE ORDER FORM:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ITEJpePcuiLdolBt8KbgILlQJyl4_wBuzcsKqNLOMiY/edit?usp=sharing

If you are willing to put your real name on there, it would make it way easier for me to mail things. If you're not comfortable putting it on the sheet that's ok.

YOU HAVE UNTIL AUGUST 20 TO GET YOUR NAME DOWN.

After that, I will be able to calculate the total for the pins and I'll need you to paypal me the money right away. Again, please take this seriously because I don't want to spend money from my own pocket but I want you guys to have nice things. Let me know if you have questions.

News & Events / VOID UPDATE - 5.99
« on: Jul 20, 2017, 03:59 PM »
Hi everyone!

You probably noticed that VOID looks a little different now. This is Void 5.99!! We have been working really hard to fix some stuff and make the site better. This was a ridiculous amount of work and we faced a lot of challenges and set backs but we are really happy to give you guys this update. Hope you guys like it! We will probably still keep tweaking this a little bit for a while...

Major Changes:

VOID IS NOW MOBILE FRIENDLY! Void was made in 2002. Long before smart phones were a thing. Finally, we have updated the site to look less garbage-y on your cellphones. There might be some funkiness here and there just because of the variety of cellphones out there, but the people have been testing it say that it's an improvement.

Navigation is condensed - Things are now under Comics, Characters, or Community. This should be pretty self explanatory. Also, HELP is now in the main nav. You can also find some stuff in the dropdown under your avatar.

Banner is taller - Banners are now 250px high. We will be making a thread in art jams shortly about new banner designs.

Other than that, things should pretty much be in the same spot.

FAQ:

Why didn't you fix this thing or add this feature in the update?
VOID is an old old website that is really complex. It took a lot of work to get to this point, and there are some items that we just can't get perfect because of how the site is constructed. We did our best.

Something is super broken or missing
PLEASE POST IT HERE! We will probably run into some stuff and we will try to fix it as soon as possible. POSTING A SCREENSHOT IS VERY HELPFUL!!

http://help.entervoid.com/

This new section of the site is intended to be your first spot to find answers, the rules, and things you didn't know about the site. This is brand new and will be changed and added on to as time goes on. For now, take a look and let me know if you have any immediate feedback.

If you encounter a new person curious about Void, kindly direct them here!

Help / The uploading "grace period"
« on: Feb 14, 2017, 02:55 PM »
In case you weren't aware, the "grace period" was the time between a comics' due date, and the time a mod manually reviewed it and uploaded it.
The uploader will no longer accept files once time is up.

If you have legitimate issues uploading, we will accept pages emailed to us in a timely fashion. This means that if you really can't upload your files you are expected to email them to staff @ entervoid.com immediately. Emailing is way past the deadline isn't acceptable.

It is your responsibility to make sure your files are uploaded properly and on time. Please double check everything is in order.

I know that the vast majority of Voiders are honest and want a fair competition. This is to ensure that competition remains fair for everyone.

Running behind? Remember the rules to have your comic posted:

1. Must be a comic, or sequential in some way.

2. Must show your character AND the opponents character

3. If it is a death or scar match, you MUST show the character dying/dead or a scar.

Even if it is a sketch of the opponent, you must at least fill these requirements. We want to keep the rules of void very simple and easy, but they must be enforced because unfair competition isn't fun.
Let me know if you have any questions!

News & Events / MONTH OF THE DEAD 2016
« on: Sep 13, 2016, 07:04 AM »

Month of the dead is returning! October 1st - 31st, ALL DEAD CHARACTERS LIVE ONCE MORE!!

This is your chance to battle with your dead character, or challenge dead characters that you would never have been able to battle before! Last year, we opened up on the restrictions on what kinds of matches dead characters can participate in. Basically, you can do anything with them:

-All dead characters may participate in Scar matches. Just like living characters, artists cannot use their dead characters again without updating their character sheet, should they receive a scar.

-All dead characters may participate in Death matches. If the living character loses, they die. But if the dead character loses, they are Annihilated. The stakes are higher for the artist with the dead character so choose this challenge carefully!

-All dead characters may participate in Annihilation matches against other dead characters. Any character that is Annihilated has been blasted from existence and can never be used on the site again in any competitive form (only cameos and artist matches are acceptable ways to use an Annihilated character)

-Matches must START in October, but if the end date of your comic lands in November then that is fine.

If you have any questions regarding using dead characters and Annihilation matches, feel free to contact staff!

News & Events / THE GREAT 2016 FORUM SHUFFLE
« on: Mar 01, 2016, 07:14 PM »
You probably noticed that the forum is arranged a little differently, yeah?

I recently did a little survey about what makes void confusing and where people go to to find help topics. The result is a little forum shuffling that is still in progress, so please bear with us!

Changes:

  • Forum is now divided into Community topics and Art topics.
  • Changed the description of some of the boards and moved topics accordingly
  • Added a "New Here?" section for brand new people. Moved "INTRODUCE YOURSELF" to this spot.
  • Deleted all old help topics. Please post new questions here or spit spat if you have a more general question (like suggestions for a new tablet, etc)

Through the survey we were able to determine the most confusing things about VOID, and we will be creating new updated topics in the help section. Some of them are massively outdated. This is going to take some time, so expect to see those pop up. Hopefully we will end up with a site that is easier to understand for new folks! Hopefully it's not too jarring for everyone at first, but I think this should make things easier in the long run.

News & Events / VOID help sections survey!!
« on: Feb 25, 2016, 04:17 PM »
Hi Void,
I'm looking for some people to take a little survey about your experiences finding help about topics on the site and how easy or hard it is to find information. The problem I'm having is that I've been on this site for almost 10 years and I need the perspective of some newer members.

It's fast, it's easy and I'd appreciate it if you filled it out!

I'm really looking forward to what newer members have to say, but if you're an older member (old enough to remember when the site looked different) then feel free to give your input on this too if you'd like to add something helpful. I'm hoping that with this feedback we can make it easier for new members to quickly get a good idea of what void is all about and where to find help if it's needed.

Thanks so much!

Please review these rules and site etiquette to make sure you don't get banned or your comic isn't posted.

Did something break? Report it in the Bugs thread.
If something strange happened and you believe it is a bug in the site, please report it here. It's also helpful if you post a screencap of what happened.

I want to submit a character, can I get feedback before I submit?
We have a board called The Incubator that you can use to get feedback on your character before you submit. Feel free to make a new thread and post your work.
Read the guidelines for posting in the incubator here.

I tried to upload my comic and it's not working.
Please tell someone if you are having difficulty uploading, so we don't assume you defaulted. At the very least, please comment on your battle that you are having difficulties. Your comic will be posted on time if we are not aware of any difficulties you are having.

News & Events / .:King & Queen of VOID Tournament 2015:.
« on: Feb 05, 2015, 08:07 AM »

Many years ago, VOID had an exciting tournament called Queen of VOID. Many beloved old-school VOID artists fought to have their character crowned as Queen. In 2007, Yosai's Orange won the crown. Now, eight years later, it's time for new royalty to step in.

Introducing the KING & QUEEN OF VOID TOURNAMENTS!
This year, we will be running a tournament to claim the title of KING and a separate one to find a new QUEEN. These tournaments will be running at the same time, but staggered by a week to alternate the voting times.

Sign up deadline:
February 20th
QUEEN START: February 22nd
KING START: March 1st
DRAWING TIME: 2 WEEKS
8 PARTICIPANTS ON EACH SIDE = 3 ROUNDS

What kind of comics are these?

You will be randomly assigned to fight another potential member of royalty until a single King and a single Queen remain. Kings and Queens will not go against each other, but the winning King and Queen can battle afterwards if they choose!

Who can sign up?
Anyone in good standing (no frequent/recent defaults) with an existing character. Your gender doesn't have to match to king or queen, just your character's.
You CANNOT participate in both tournaments, sorry.

Do I have to have my character literally enter a tournament in my story? Or become royalty?

Although some artists chose to have their characters enter a fighting tournament in 2007, you can write whatever story you'd like. However you want to portray your character coming out on top of the other girls or boys is fine. Be creative! You can have a royal theme if you feel like it, but there are no requirements other than the standard ones we have regardless.

REMEMBER:

There is no VOID official canon storyline, so the sky is the limit!

However, your comics must abide by our standard rules for posting:
1. Must be a comic. Single pin-up pages/cover will not count.
2. Both your character and your opponent's character must appear in the comic.

If you're interested, post below with the name of the character you wish to enter. Please let me know if you have any questions!

spit spat, time to chat / Let me tell you about the thing I did
« on: Sep 14, 2014, 02:05 PM »
So, I know I dropped off the face of the earth for a little bit, I thought I should explain what kept me from doing 100  Somadis battles.

I made this really crappy comic in like 10 minutes. YES, I AM ASHAMED OF THE QUALITY, I KNOW!!!

If I had know this was going to be the most popular comic I have ever made and will EVER make, I would have done a better job on it and signed it.

This thing went completely viral.
It was the #2 image on imgur, it has like 375,000 tumblr notes, it was shared by the guy that does "My cat From Hell", it popped up in several articles on animal rescue, and has been translated into different languages. Printed versions hang in many shelters all of the world.

People started contacting me and telling me that my comic changed their view on what kind of animal they wanted to adopt. Countless people shared their stories of their own 3-legged, one-eyed cats. I made literally thousands of people cry. That alone makes me feel amazing. The fact that I actually made a difference in something that I care about is insane.

So, I decided to start The Tiny Tabby
. The idea was to make cute characters that represented different kinds of less-adoptable cats. They are printed plushes about 10" high. Half of the purchase goes towards rescue groups and shelters. Because imagine what I could do if I actually TRIED.

I set up an Indiegogo campaign with a goal of $1000. In about 20 minutes we surpassed that. The campaign was only for a week, and we ended just under $9000. We sold out of the perks, which was limited to 250.

So, for about a solid month and a half, I sewed 250 plush cats.
Get up, go to work, come home, sew cats, go to bed, repeat. It was really draining. But now most of the perks are fulfilled, besides a few stragglers.

And we have a website and and online store where I can limit the quantities and never be stuck sewing hundreds of cats at a time.

So, the goal is to educate while raising money for shelters.

SO YEAH, if you've seen that crappy first comic, that was me. If you want to see more, you can find it here:

https://www.facebook.com/thetinytabby
http://www.thetinytabby.com/
http://thetinytabby.tumblr.com/

This takes up a LOT of my time, because when we first opened up the shop we completely sold out. But I am extremely proud that I can make a difference with my art. Cat drawings, no less.

Hey VOID dudes. If you're like me, you like to listen to podcasts while working/arting/drawing/comicing .... WHOA WAIT A SEC... WHAT'S THIS??

Art by Puzzlething :D

Puzzlething, our bros and I have a podcast that just came out! It's us playing Dungeons and Dragons. We don't take it too seriously and our characters are all pretty hilarious... also we suck at playing. Puzzle is our DM and I am a menacing orc :3

If you subscribe on iTunes the other episodes show up... there are 3 available right now. Our first one is a little shaky because we are nervous haha, but I promise you it gets better. I figured I'd post it here since I know that a bunch of you are also D&D nerds... so I hope you guys download and enjoy while you draw some comics!

Feel free to leave a shining 5 star review too if you are feeling generous! Thanks guys!

News & Events / Please give us input on VOID!
« on: Oct 30, 2013, 01:52 PM »
Hello!

I have a favor to ask. Specifically of newer members. But you old-timers can chime in as well.

We think a huge problem that VOID has is that it is a little confusing or hard to navigate at times. The people that can actually change the site have all been here for a thousand years and it's difficult to see specifically WHAT is confusing because we are so used to the site! If you could share your thoughts on what you think could be improved on the site as far as navigation, where to go to find the answers to your questions, and the general overall experience of using the site, then I would appreciate it. I heard of people getting confused on where to go to upload comics or change information.... stuff like that I need to know about!

We would really like to change some things on the site to make it more user-friendly. We already have some ideas in mind, but I would really appreciate any thoughts on this.

Thanks for your input, guys!

I've seen this floating around and figured I'd post it here.

http://www.eggazyoutatsu.net/atarichanDrawer.html

It's a pose generator that provides you with the joints of the figure. You can use your tablet to draw directly on it, and flesh out the figure. It seems to give you some very interesting angles to try. Seems like a cool warm up exercise!

Here's a random example I grabbed from the site.

Try it out, post it up here!
