Karma's Charmas

Ohh, okay, and that does look nice. I originally intended to leave real objects colored normally if they looked the same as they do in the real world, but since he's technically part of it I suppose it would make sense to tint him too. His eyes are suppose to show when he's using his powers since they change to a glow from his pupils, but maybe an aura of some kind or like the lights/bubbles would be more obvious. I'll have to try a couple of different things and see how they look.

An aura looked strange to me so I figured on something smaller, so I gave him the little halo of lights that shows up in both the real world and the other world. Plus wispy, smokey fog in the imaginary world

That definitely stands out better than what you had before, I can see what you're trying to get across much better now. Perhaps a couple variations in the blue hue just to give it a bit more pop but I think it's definitely more obvious he is in a different "realm."

One thing I have noticed though is, when you changed the background in the trapeze imaginary scenes to blue you can still see some of the original colours around the edge of the character. This makes me think you are colouring the background and characters on the same layer and so had to paint around it to change the colour. Am I correct here? If so, you should definitely start colouring your background and characters on separate layers to make changes easier down the line.

Looking good though, get this guy in!

I've been away from here for a while mainly because I want to draw a new intro comic for this character since I'm not very happy with this one. The blue works, but I don't think it fits well with his theme. I'm going to try a black and white world with green light sources to match him a little better, maybe with an almost Beetlejuice like feel to it.
And yes, I did accidentally merge those layers while working on it so I did have to paint around him. It looks sloppy to me the more I see it and I'll have to try and avoid that with the new one. Just posting here to show I'm not giving up on the character, just still working. Hopefully I can get something new up soon!

He is also very flexible and his hands are quite strong,

so um, his hands are quite strong.
but we never see them--- this is concerning.

all that stuff about him seeing another world-- and then he touches you, and you see that world?

how's he gonna touch you... if his hands are all stuck inside that hot mess of a jacket? :o

i guess a quick kiss on the cheek might work aye?
Would suck if he had to fight someone who can't be touched.
Ooops!

New Character: Genie

It's been a long time since I posted on here, so I'll give it a second try! I decided that Nick's powers weren't easy enough for me to portray in comic pages since I'm still not very advanced in that yet so this time I've picked a more straightforward character to try.

Alias: Genie
Name: Lydia Rao
Age: 25
Height: 5'7"
Abilities: Shifts the state of matter in her own body, and non-organic materials, between liquid, solid, and gas. (So she melts, solidifies, and evaporates things and herself.) In solid form, she's hard like a rock and uses this to do more damage in fights. In liquid form, she can slide through small spaces and absorb impact from falls. In gaseous state, she can float around to where she needs to get to.
Personality: Lydia is bubbly and personable to most people, but can come off as stuck up from her need for attention. She's very stubborn when she sets her mind to something and won't give up easily.
Bio: Lydia got into the heroing business mostly for attention. She does care about the people she helps but she also wants to be recognized, maybe even become a famous hero one day. She has been dealing with small time criminals for a while but has decided to move out of her beginner phase to try taking on more dangerous criminals and people would could be considered supervillains.

Been a while since I was on here! Between a new very disorganized job and lack of motivation, I haven't gotten much done in the way of comics but I had an idea for a new character that might kick me back into gear!

I know there's probably enough toons on this site but I love them and wanted to throw mine in the pile. He's a little 'snakeoil merchant'-esque guy who would probably sell a baby if it meant turning over a profit. Overall pretty sleezy and conniving for a toon. He sells faulty weapons and such around town for the most part, knowing they're going to blow up in people's faces, so he's got a lot of enemies out there too.
As for the things in his jacket, he follows the rule of funny like in Roger Rabbit so he can't just pull out anything he thinks of if it doesn't fit the situation or work as a gag for him.

Aaand a short intro comic!

With a certain blonde bombshell making a cameo, or at least her legs.

Now this is what everybody loves to see- a character sheet and completed intro comic ready to go. Gold star!

It's obvious you're excited for this new character- I am too! It's always great to have more toony black and white fighters tromping around Void. I especially dig the fact his eyes are hidden and he has dark gums. Makes his swarmy grin really stand out!

That said, I think your quality took a ding on account of your exuberance. Your paneling looks a little rushed and lopsided. Your gutters could use with some tweaking. Especially in places like page one. Namely panel 1 and panel 7. Is the street in panel 1 bleeding into the brick wall of panel 7? What's the block of grey in between?

I do love love that Conway breaks the fourth wall by getting into the callers face in panels 4/5. Really clever! I feel that build up of drama falls flat when he gently puts the phone back on the cradle. Apart from the 'slam' sound effect, there really is no indication he mashed that phone down with vim and vigor. I'd really love to see you get into it with exaggerating him and the things he interacts with.

I know the above is a mouthful, but I wouldn't be this wordy if I wasn't utterly excited for a fighter and Conway gets my comics juices goin'! I'm sure we'll love him as much as we do Genie.

Writing Pud for the tournament made me really want a villain to play with on the site. Conway's a villain, sure, but he's all silly fun. I was thinking more a supervillain to play opposite to Genie's comics.

(And I know if anyone saw my first post on the site they may think this is Nick, but Nick's getting a makeover and this guy just happens to have similar hair to how Nick's was, haha)

Koolie and Venus

Two supers who used to be part of a research department for super powered beings, where the group both studied what caused powers and how to make them stronger. Koolie has the ability to detect powers; superhuman, supernatural, magic, ect. Venus was a more important subject, a strong shapeshifter.

Fastforward, the group is dissolved and experiments have left Venus without the ability to hold her own form for very long. Instead she relies on Koolie, acting as his supersuit and sometimes forcing him to move the way she wants him to since his body is encased in her and he can't fight back. Koolie's quite in love with her and sees them as Bonnie and Clyde, making them a very crooked couple of sweethearts.

---------

I don't plan on making their intro comic until after I've completed Pud's Beyond Battle, but I thought I'd post this here to ask some opinions.

I don't like Venus's design at the moment. Her full body form, not the suit form. I'm pretty happy with the suit. So I wanted to ask if anybody had some suggestions? She looks similar to how she did before losing her shape in this current design, albeit with new colors. I wondered if I should take away her accessories, make her more monstery looking, or something else. She wouldn't be seen too often separated from Koolie, but I want to have her full form on the ref sheet regardless.

I think some more eyes or moving her features around to make her more mostery would be neat! Since she's an unstable shape shifter who also seems to have a kind of inky/paint look maybe having her look a bit more melted/picasso-esc?

Hah, I forgot I put those two in here. I wound up using them as RP characters, pretend you didn't see them.

Look at these guys instead.

JC would be the character while Sammy is an NPC. But JC judges the souls of the deceased and shows up wherever people die, come near death, or break the Reaper Rules (tm) by trying to perform necromancy or consume/capture souls.

Sketching pages in between other stuff I"m doing so they might come slow but here's the roughs for the first page

And even though she won't be going on the ref, Momma Grimwauld's colors

ooh, I like momma's gloves. Gives her an almost Freddy Krueger air.

Them comic pages are looking promising too. Go Karma, go! :DDD

A sequence from one of my WIP pages (this isn't the whole page) that I thought looked funny/neat on its own. I love doing transformy magical nonsense.

I reworked Koolie and Venus and decided I'll be using them anyway, after I get more done with Judgement Call. They'll probably be my last characters to add (unless there's some death tourneys I just can't resist) and they'll be filling my spot for a not-dead villain. Big plans for them down the road hehe. But just poppin' this in here while I remember so it won't be too sudden when I eventually do their intro.

I'm going for the record for longest time for a fighter to be stuck in the Incubator.
Updated refs plus thumbs. I currently have all my frames, word bubbles/dialogue and such done and I'm about %25 through sketching. Gonna be 4 long stretchy pages to give the full context for their cult.
