Planning on trying to get a cover together, as well as a story for this beast! Using Dan! (forgive my non-usage of the thumbnail, posting from mobile). Hell yeah, Angie!

Also, Galvo did you have a specific character you wanted to use? I'm assuming you would wanna bust Galvo out for this but let me know

Awesome awesome! We've got quite the sweet lineup so far! As long as everyone turns in, this should become a very lovely book. I'm estimating this will be about 200 pages or so unless we get some very very long entries. I think ideally we wouldn't want to go over 300 pages and I highly doubt we would (we're fortunately not all page monsters), because then the price might start getting insane for the book. I figure we'll cross that bridge when we get there when I actually look and see how many finished entries we have.

All the more reason to focus on quality over quantity.

I second this sentiment.  It's a shame the character did not get many comics.

I'd love to sign up too - possibly with Lophii or the other gal I am working on ATM.

On the other note, will there be a moment at which you will say: ok, no more signups, TOUGH! ?

Nah, if I seriously get a complete entry from everyone signed up that would be amazing. If I got more than 250-300 pages worth of work from people I would just split it into 2 soul crushingly awesome volumes to keep the cost of the book down. (I think 300 pages was the limit before the book would go past $30 and that's when it gets insane) I know the likelihood of receiving a complete entry from every single person that's signed up is very slim, same with getting more than 250 pages of content. Which is why I would rather ensure I keep sign ups open and let everyone in that might do something than potentially end up without enough work to put in the book.

Like I said, worst case scenario I get so much amazing content I would put it in a volume 1 and volume 2 (they would be released at the same time of course). But again, it's pretty unlikely that will happen as I realize things come up, some people might not end up doing it, some might not make the deadline, etc.

And on the cost note, I am most likely going to let Indyplanet sell the book digitally as well. On the book that I released that was only about 50 pages, I remember a few international friends that bought it had to pay out the ass on shipping, I don't want to know how much it would be for something larger. It will be available digitally if the cost of the physical book is too much for you or the shipping might be insane.

Will you moderate the entries as well? I am just curious, I hope whatever I do would get past moderation ;)

Oh, just imagine 300 pages of void awesomeness... I think I would be one very happy girl if I got one of these!

I will be moderating entries based on the following criteria. And keep in mind on all of these it is your responsibility to fix any major problems I find, I won't be doing it.

-Is this comic equal to or superior to your comics present on the site? This is the big one. Like I said in the rules, anyone of any skill level can get in, but I have to see that you put your best foot forward. If it looks like ass next to your battles it's a no go. As long as you really put your heart into the comic, you'll have no issues getting in. Please don't attempt to make a long entry if you've never successfully done a long comic. I would rather have 20 entries that are 5 pages long that look amazing than 20 long entries that look like ass.

-Did they follow all of the rules?

-Does everything fit the technical specifications? (page size, does it fit the ka-blam template, is it 300 dpi, etc.) If it doesn't, you will be asked to fix it.

-I highly recommend everyone have a friend proof read their entries, especially if you know spelling/grammar is a weakness or if you might have some troubles with English. I'll be checking for typos and stuff like that so it'll definitely make my life easier if you guys have your buddies look over your script prior to submitting. I recommend everyone does their text digitally for this reason, because you'll have to fix any problems like that. I'm no grammar nazi, but at the very least your entry should be free of typos or grammatical errors when you're submitting something for print.

I mean it's going to be very straight forward. As long as everyone follows the rules and technical requirements and tries on their entries it's not going to be very hard to get in. I won't be personally critiquing everyone's entries or anything, but I will let you know what was wrong if the entry breaks the rules or looks like ass.

If anyone gets declined they can of course resubmit, but the problems have to be fixed or we won't be friends anymore.

Hey Angie, I'm the co-editor of the WFA artbook. Just dropping by to wish you good luck with the book! Good choice in doing an anthology, it will be much less work regarding editing than an artbook; our book took ages to put together because we had to chase down people, collect artworks and write texts too. I will check out the void book once it's done!

Regarding Indyplanet I can tell you a few things:

- The cover gets cut more than you'd think. The inside cover seems to get cut a lot less for some weird reason.

- The quality is okay but since it's print on demand it's not perfect. I think Indyplanet is much much much cheaper than Lulu if you want to print in color. Comixpress is another printing service but I have no experience with it. Seems to be the same thing, in essence. We had some small books from both Comixpress and Indyplanet here before we decided but it's hard to judge.

- Printing and shipping together can take up to a month, with bad luck even a bit longer. We have been waiting for the digital publishing option since June or so and as far as I know it's still not available. Their website is a bit broken in places.

- Shipping internationally! Our book had 224 pages so we are talking roughly the same size here. Do not order more than 4 books at once else the shipping costs will increase drastically if you have it shipped internationally (you can play with the amount in the shopping cart and see how shipping costs change). Shipping of 4 books is actually reasonable.
They split up my order of 4 books to 2 books per package and marked it as a commercial sample. This way it takes longer but it's also easier to avoid customs this way. Customs and stuff like that will probably depend on the country, so look up your customs regulations and the price limits if you want to save money.

All the best with this project! :-)

Thanks for the tips and the well wishes! Because I had gotten the idea from seeing WFA do it, I'm glad we have your blessing.

What would you recommend for a wrap around? I couldn't tell if you guys' cover was a wrap around or not from the picture on Indyplanet.

Yeah, cost was definitely the reason I went with Indyplanet over Lulu. Lulu is nice but they get pretty pricey and they can be picky about what they put up. I'm surprised it takes so long for them to put the digital version up. With my own book the digital edition went up at the same time as the print edition but that was only 50 pages vs. 200+. Have you guys contacted them about that? I remember just needing to ask and someone was able to put it up right away.

We had a wrap-around cover, you can see it on this photo: http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/fivelein/WFA/Artbook/artbook-photos.jpg

As far as I know the whole digital book section has been down for half a year. I just looked it up, it's still down for "maintenance": www.indyplanetdigital.com

Very nice!

For the digital edition I may toss it up on Graphicly then, they seem to be pretty solid.
