Whadd'ya mean it has to look pretty first?

So hey, might else well put all those sketches and what-not up somewhere, right? Right..?

First up, a quick sketch I made of a new suit/armor design idea for Elle, plus random heads to the right:

a and b is from Genshiken, c d and e is from a comic I made in the months leading to my secondary school
finals. Proper completed works of them will be uploaded in future.

And, the next step in Kars' evol story progression, but I forgot to set the scanner properly (smack head emote)
so it's black and white:

Unfortunately, I'm still looking for a proper story to let him suddenly sprout shoulders of doom.

Made on a whim after seeing Frank Frazzeta's "Death Dealer" picture.
And stuff from my sketch folder from newest to oldest:

So I'm starting to notice something about the people you draw.  They're not long enough or rather I think the problem is in the legs.  I think you're drawing them all at five to six heads length, and while not everyone has to follow the head rule it's a good one to make sure your people are proportionate.  I mean if you want them all to be short that's your call.  But I think if you lengthened the legs by at least a head more, they'd seem more like average people.

Sooo, turns out you were right Will. I WAS drawing them 6 heads tall, so yeah.

My current folder front cover:

and a couple of eye-killing sketches:

That last sketch looks really nice. I see some nice improvement when you draw, so keep going!

Your inks look pretty nice! More inks!

Have you tried sketching in color? You could build your really rough shapes with a light colored pencil then finish your sketch with a dark pencil/ink over it. Might clean things up a bit. Just a suggestion, keep it up!

I haven't found the urge yet to do things in color.

OTOH, have a couple of recent stuff:

This is my new plastic folder cover, though I felt too lazy to give proper blacks and finish it up.

And this is the design sheet of a new character I may or may not submit soon.
Mainly because I can't decide on the lore and background material and stuff.
The only concrete thing is that it's like a CHILDREN'S CARD GAME, except with proper dying and stuff.

Line art's looking good in those last couple.

I'm seeing a lot of the same body shape in all of these though, kars aside. They're all really thin, but with a bigger sized head that makes them look short. More variance would be nice. Also be aware of the proportions in your poses. I'm talking about figures like the last sketch on the bottom left. that bent arm looks off

Well if you're interested in seeing that concept (the whole Yugioh with death) then you should read Chaosic Rune.  Which is exactly like Yugioh in both style and the fact that it revolves around a kid's card game.  Except that it's extremely ultraviolent with some nudity here and there.

To quote TVTropes: "They may as well call this series "Testosterone: The Card Game"."

So, these came about in one burger and coke-fueled day/night. Behold, a crash course in
S.S.U. lore/fluff/fanfic/whatnot. :p

From the left, the kit that operatives deck out in when in warzones or particularly lawless neighbourhoods/countries.
Middle, is for the regular missions which don't usually involve tanks, airstrikes, or rampaging wildlife/natives.
On the right, you have the heavy armor guys, who point and laugh any weapon smaller than a full-size machine-gun or RPGs. Think like those heavy armor enemies from the first FEAR game.

Some more info on these. Originally used for space operations, it turns out that the Extra Vehicular Activity Armored Combat Suit (EVAACS) works extremely well on the ground. Only operatives with exceptional bravery, leadership and tactical acumen are allowed to wear the suit into combat, usually sergeants and above.

Armor rating: Like a concrete jersey barrier.
Weapon of choice: .30 machine-gun.
Strength augmentation: like a raging gorilla.
Full NBC protection.
Tagline: "Lead the charge. Break their ranks. Hold the Line."

The above is the basic heiarchy/organisation for S.S.U.'s Void City branch.
From below, the Operatives, the mercs on the ground, the line animals.
When off-mission, they answer to the Receptionist, Cathy Sturm (appeared in Elle vs Lindsey Pescion).
She assigns which Operative to which mission, and handles daily operations in the office.
The Receptionist answers to the Branch Secretary, Sally Crawfield. Anything above the Receptionist's paygrade is handled by her, and keeps check on all the other departments (finance, logistics, materials procurement, human resources and training, etc).
The Branch Secretary answers to the Branch Administrator, Carl Rochester III. All major decisions that affect the operations of the branch are considered and made by him, which includes promotions and forced retirements.
Lao Hung, the Headquarters Liaison, acts as a politburo officer of sorts, making sure that the branch maintains the ideals of the founder of the company, and also ensure everyone maintains the high degree of professionalism and drive for self-improvement as required by all S.S.U. employees.

Also of note, those are the official S.S.U. uniforms next to Hung and Crawfield. Grey with black trim, and berets for Operatives, Officer's hat for the administration.

Dude, you're like a comic road pavement layer. How do you constantly work on so much stuff?

ART BLOCK SUUUUUUCK

Behold, the Rangers! Roaming the wild wastes of the worlds, never staying for long, they uphold justice with
their Drill-Lancers, piercing evil and smacking evil right in the face.

(it was 3 am in the morning)

Drills are the new black--they go with everything ;)
I like these Rangers--they look like a lot of fun!

Dead threads tell no tales.

Emergency studies/concepts/reference sheet if I can't get to my laptop for the current battle:

Bored in class, bereft of entertainment, a practice sketch of Mr.Kent's Jane Blonde, a room, and
quick pose studies of my classmates (the advantage of being in a class full of kids? They don't pay attention
to what you do):

Hey TDK, a pleasure to see your work as always.

I definitely see you working more towards the whole military fiction genre and a meatier visual style and I like that. Good to have a distinct direction to explore and flesh out.

Your skill certainly has been improving. Inking has more depth and dimension to it. Though I have to say I still wish you had access to better materials so you could show off more finely tuned linework. You are getting better at drawing body's at the old 7 head rule makes the character far more mature and right for their genres.

Though I guess I do have a few things I'd like to address.

To be blunt though you still hold strong to the generic manga style of face you use. I know you use it quite often and its what you have started from but I think for the direction you are going you could push yourself a bit further. Have you considered trying to add in some more naturalized looking facial features or some pencil studies of features? I, for one, would like to see you try more to draw faces that are more in line with how you see them rather then a generic shorthand and taking on more realistic expressions.

here is something I think might interest you:
Facial Shapes

Its all about face shape and muscles and I think you could gain something from giving it a try. You can take what you like and leave the rest but I hope it helps.

Thanks for the link, Orion.

And putting this here because I dunno.

I admit, I had a lot of fun making this one. And I guess I know now why Orange likes drawing robot catgirls from space so much.

Those are looking really good, man. Solid proportion and structure, and your facial construction looks like it's come a long way in a short time.

Man, fuckin' DAchat won't let me in. So I'll just leave these here:

First two i've linked in the chat, third one I did in class today. (PARTNERSHIP ACCOUNTS :AARRRGHHH:)

It's 4am, so fuck if I'm going to unflip and fix the alignment on these:

Winged person is a reawakened demigoddess from an old story I made, person in white is a potential new character

Another old character I made, this is also in reverse. The thing on her (left) hand is symbiotically attached, has a (sarcastic) mind of it's own, always hungry, and can morph into a tattoo so people don't stare

Been trying to finalize a deathmatch-type character. Still not sure if it should be a fembot or just regular mannish-bot.

Robot vampires wooo

There's nothing deep here, move along.

I will not shoot myself in the foot again by doing two comics at one time.
But goddamn if it isn't tempting.
