He puzzled and puzzled till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before! Maybe Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store. Maybe Christmas... perhaps... means a little bit more! And what happened then? Well, in Whoville they say that the Grinch's small heart grew three sizes that day. And then - the true meaning of Christmas came through, and the Grinch found the strength of *ten* Grinches, plus two!

GO FOR BROKE! / Re: First attempt at Sequentials

when i do detail i just create a simple pattern using components that would seem prevalent to the space and just repeat it over and over again. This fills up space, makes it quick and easy to do, and makes sense without getting too out of control. when all else fails have a cup of coffee.

You have made the more important panels of the story the smallest ones. I recommend you reverse this sizing and make more detail and emphasis on the last few panels with more emotion in them. The huge thick borders also distract from the comic and tone down the silhouette in the last panel. Anatomy is really good so far but the way the characters are balanced and the posture needs to be rethought. Like in the panel with the gun. These need to be rebalanced and rethought. More importantly there is something off with the way he is holding the gun in the bottom left panel. It's too relaxed. A gun does not sit in the hand like a banana, but more like a sword, where the center balance point is above the fist.

your torsos are wayyy too long and your arms are short. also try adding some contrast. the scene seems smudged out.

we need not argue about this for the sake of monster. lets see some sequentials.

Since your work is very stylized I wouldnt worry about anatomy and more about shape relations.

You can't have stylization without the controls they are based on.

/saidbefore

But it seems that when anatomy is under scrutiny in void people nit pick it till death. What I am trying to tell him is worry about anatomy after he has settled on a shape that he enjoys to draw. Stylization is nothing more than a way of drawing that suits your comfort zone.

Since your work is very stylized I wouldnt worry about anatomy and more about shape relations. Thus try to make something look like it works and its not cumbersome looking. And I agree that I think you need to work on incorporating environments and backgrounds. Think of them as characters themselves with some some sort of stylistic quirkiness that the rest of your work has.

What I have found to be the best education is not by reading manga or looking over other artists stuff but instead actually sitting down and understanding things from a real life standpoint. I'm going into my third year at art school and I have found that i have greatly improved in all fronts. Not because I took a comics class or read a bunch of new comics, but rather I took a drawing classes and design classes. So if you want the best education, go take a fundamentals class. It can be a drag if you want it to be, but if you get serious about it you will start to really understand shape and form which can help you with framing and developing what is the most comfortable way for you to display your ideas. Looking at other artists in the industry is just the icing on the cake.

bootstrap, for the record, none of the work on my website is meant to show how well I can draw, or has anything to do with sequentials, or void for that matter. But it is just plain fun. I draw what I like to draw for that site. I shall be submitting a character towards the end of the week. Thank you all for checking out my site.

So I've been hanging around void for a while now and have never gotten around to submitting a fighter due to the insane amount of work that my school demands from me. On the other hand I have had enough time to keep a sketchbook and doodle in it from time to time. I have now gotten a website together and dedicated it to those doodles. So I shall share a link.

This summer I may enter a fighter. We shall see how much free time I can create in my mind.
