“Joseph Vilelinko: the mayor Void City deserves!”

Thanks for voting, everyone, and for all the comments and critiques. All these comics were a lot of fun to read!

Now the hard work begins!

Also, it didn’t end up making it into the comic the way I had intended, so I’ll just leave it here. The song that kept me going on this comic was N.W.O. by Ministry. There was supposed to be a more graphic title card at the end with a closed caption for the song title, followed by the scene with Buster, as like an after credits sting. Didn’t come together that way, but still, great song.

HEATHEN- Heck yeah. From the first page, we get not only classic void full of ridiculous violence and hijinks, but you gave it something of a cinematic twist. I love the idea of the intense intro interspersed with the opening credit sequences (which really helped set the stage with the cast list!) . It was a nice way to draw out the moments that we're happening and give those tense extra beats to the poor unfortunate airline passenger before things go FUBAR.

Speaking of things going nuts, boy howdy, the smile is savage. From skinning Harlow, to using Koosh as a mask in lei if forgetting his, the antics he gets up to remind us why he was voted best antagonist. You're definitely living up to the title.

It's clear what pages you began full steam with and which ones, perhaps didn't get as much TLC due to the deadlien and time constraints. I'm wondering why, with the neat story you were weaving the big climactic moment on page 19 and beyond. I feel like Conway would've said *something*  to his buddy Koosh before the stomach churning reveal is given. Your beginning pages though are a real treat. I especially love the moments you really get into 'movie' mode with some of the choices of your panels.  The bottom panel on page 13 is a perfect example. I almost feel like I'm in the jungle with poor Conway's screeching, disturbing the canopy birds.

It seems to be a theme with baddies that less is more, eh? I dug you didn't see much of him and he enters and leaves the fray still a total mystery.

KARMA- Its such a shame the deadline monster got to you and some of these pages are rough around the edges, but I love that you did your best to make the story clear enough I could still follow it. Conway, per usual is in humorous form from the get- the bust of Jane Blonde totally took me by surprise and made me chuckle. Clever! It's also nice to see Conway introduce himself as well as the reader to the caliber of opponents he's running against. Not to mention the peek at the citizens of void themselves and what they think of this motley crew. Too often with tournaments like these, its easy to be so overwhelmed by the number of opponents you got going on that's all you focus on, making the narrative pretty insular. It was cool to see you branch out and give us a peek at the masses themselves and the furry mobs hijacking of the event.

This is tough to crit since I know you were pressed for time but if there was one thing I'd want to see you push yourself on, its your choice of composition. You got alot of talking head panels, which come with alot of dialogue. When we got nothing but talking heads page after page, it tends to get a bit boring. I'd definitely recommend mixing it up. Giving us angles, things and elements of the story you may want the reader to focus on rather than the characters themselves. Sometimes even getting abstract with it makes for an interesting page.

AnG: Solid work. I love to see you continue to challenge yourself like this, I know how sucky long deadlines and such ambitious narratives are, but I am proud of you for finishing to the degree you did! You have  come a long way, your writings pretty funny in this, although I agree a bit with yarn. IT lines up a bit to well, it makes the storytelling feel like there is no real payoff. He won and that was it.

Heathen: God, Smile is fucking scary. I know there is only really one way thise comic was gonna end, but you made everyone so their own and then you just... murder them. And it makes it that more impactfull to me. Your solid blacks and inks are just delicious, your talent and hard work and grind to get here has paid of something massively as of late. I need MORE SMILE. I also need an adult after seeing harlow like that.

Tay: Page 4 caught me off guard. Super tight pace, very wordy yet never dragging which is to me is a very big props. You are a really solid writer when it comes to conveying peoples points of view and emotions and you tied things together in a really proper manner. Big ups to you.

Karma: I feel that if this had finished, it would had been some exellent stuff. Your storytelling chops and pace still show and I enjoyed it despite the state of it. You got such a good grip of dialogue.

Fred: Not what I expected. The ending had me laughing so hard.

Nothing: Sweet, to the point, surprisingly emotive and heartfealt for the format you chose, solid punchline to his misery with the daughter asking for people to vote.  I honestly loved it.

The two of these comics followed a quick and dirty gag which was a nice way to jump into what was otherwise a super dense election battle. I'mma hit em first.

FRED-
I don't know what I expected. Of all things it wasn't this. XD You shocked, you hooked readers from the get, and in doing so kind of spelled out Casino's platform for this campaign. What more do we need to know aside from inches? lol

NOTHIN-
I fully expected Koosh to come into round 2 fists flying, so it was an interesting turn to see him just done with Voids craziness. And it makes sense. The last election was kookoo coco puffs and for his ridiculous green pelt, odd origins and generally wacky appearance, Koosh is just a regular guy with a kid. Its been interesting seeing a character we expect to be kooky, just be as regular as the rest of us. And bless his kid for being dedicated to the job of campaign manager.

Wow okay. That was alot to read XD
It was pretty close between taylor's and Heathen's. Taylor's was really well thought out and well written. Heathen's had better art, and a creative story concept with a great finish. In terms of who i'd personally want to be mayor, I'd be team tsumi, she has swayed my heart. But in terms of voting for a comic, I can't disregard Heathen's talent XD. Also Koosh's was really cute, I adored that. Karma's despite being unfinished was readable and that was nice. Pants ripping was really funny in karma's. Nice work everyone, I'm seeing alot of great comics lately!! I liked that Heathen's wasn't exactly reality but a what if XD Man that was creative. About 4 years ago or so I did a battle royale style comic here too, it can be challenging to write, but it's very rewarding.
Here goes:

TAYLOR- Lots of pages! The story doesn't falter and is tight and indepth. The quality stays consistent. I understand due to the length the lack of color. I loved the use of 4th wall shenanigans. The fog was a little confusing, i couldn't tell what that was about for a while and it looked kind of off. The characters all interact with eachother very naturally, quite the highlight to me. Toon physics was also an interesting and creative touch. I really loved page 9. Koosh seemed a bit challenging for you to draw. Instead of looking organic, he just kinda looked lazily drawn. Especially when so much detail went into humanoid characters a panel later, or sometimes even in the same panel (page 12 panel 3) It was dope seeing all the void city characters mingling and chatting about the election. I enjoy all the character details that really add to the atmosphere, like veronica's setting vs xia's setting with all the damn dogs lol. Page 20 last panel Greece's head looks a little large in relation to his body. Page 24 hit so hard. Such a great finish.

FRED: Uhh.. Great comic buddy XD I like sandra's stache.

A&G- Right off the bat, I am accosted with too many textures and brushes that don't really jive together. It's ot particularly harmonious. And the focus put on Buster's face from the extreme perspective and lighting was immediately shot down by his oddly expressionless face. Kind of an odd first panel. Moving on. The way you draw conway and merry is very comedic XD I enjoyed it. Especially pg 4 second panel XD oh man pure insanity in that lambs face. Did you guys plan to have tearaway pants? If not this is quite the coincidence.  Maaan, reading  the way you wrote Tsumi after having read Tsumi's is so heartbreaking DX Dont cry Tsum tsum!!I dunno what heppened in page 11, but the nice perspectives kinda took a dump. The white outlines aren't particularly appealing either. The window is kind of disappointing here too, box buildings and a poorly drawn sill. I'm still not really sure what the point of the story was. It was more of a series of events and didn't really tell a story. I'm just kinda left guessing? Nice job regardless, keep it up!!

NOTHIN: This was actually super cute, thank you. Man I just love koosh so much now that he's a family man. He has so much to protect now!! You should def keep going with that theme. I want to see him have a good life!!

KARMA: I just love conway so much, but it's such a shame the quality couldnt hold up (except for conway who was the only well drawn thing throughout haha) Dispite the shoddy and missing lines, this comic is readable and flows well enough. Page 11 was kind of weird in the way characters are facing and falling. I dont see how koosh fell off the building from getting hit from that direction, idk it doesnt really flow too well. Those monsters just tear his ass up though, would they really be that violent??

HEATHEN: YIKES! Brutal!! The composition is very well done!! Everything is very clear and drawn very well! I knew where the story was going from the 2nd panel of pg 4. Page 10 is great, I love harlocke's attempt at convincing himself its okay to kill someone XD. I also love that you drew harlock like some kind of 1940's golden book kitten. Itrs super cute. Though you draw him a little inconsistently, but it doesnt really make a huge difference. I really love all the BGs in pg 14. Very nice work there. Pg 15 OH NO KOOSH RUN!! He has a SAW!! Pg 14 is going to traumatize me XD Did the smile put on his... oh my god... just yikes. And YEAH i def forgot about buster til the end XD GREAT finish. Perfect really.

Radji:  ... I didn't get it.  I mean, the election is not a scratch. Soooo... was it a simulation? Or was it Buster's luck?  A vision that could have happened?  I loved this comic's esthetics and gore, but I honestly didn't understand the ending. I swear it's not  because I don't try, cuz i love BattleRoyale inspired slaughters...

Thanks for the feedback! I decided to just have fun with the premise and not worry about doing anything “canonical”, because I didn’t want to have to explain why the characters, particularly The Smile, wouldn’t kill in this situation. And really wanted to draw Harlow without skin and The Smile wearing Koosh’s face for a mask. So you could call it a zany what-if scenario.

As for the ending, specifically the last page, the idea was that Buster got lucky and didn’t make it onto the plane bound for the island. There were several scenes cut for time here. I had written an opening to the comic where everyone is on the plane and the situation is explained to them before they are unceremoniously dropped from the plane. I also had a longer version of the final scene where we see Buster flip a coin, look at the result, and give it a kiss, before speaking with the ticket person and finding out he was being put on another flight. As we see in the comic, the poor guy who was mixed up with Buster on the plane got the shit end of Buster’s luck.

Now, whether any of that was communicated in the comic is another story, so if it didn’t work for you, that’s good to know!

Fred:  I didn't see tat coming and i almost spat out my pizza when reading it honhonhonhon.  Clearly not the most serious entry, and the most unlikely, but what else could happen with our boi, he who has a magnificient dick?

Nothin: welp, that's the rather sad and depressive reality of it all isn't it? Just for that i would be curious to see if by a big fluke he gets elected mwahahahahaa

Karma: What a fun pile of shenanigans! Conway lived up to his toon nature. And yes he did show a lot of capacities needed to be mayor in a city where a mob of furious furries wants your skin. He is honestly a legit candidate. Too bad some pages were not finished. Still liked it a lot. I just loved the part with the ripoff pants.

Arts: the most serious candidate in my own personal view. Harlow means well and tries to appease a greater number of people. But it's also his weakness: If you try to appease everyone, you also make even more people discontent. Where could this relatively new Voider take us? Who knows ^^

Otakutaylor: Tsumi is the candidate who is closest to the definition (the true one ) of a populist. She is known of many, appeal to many, has a program that can appeal to many. Which is why I find it strange she forgot to talk about the dock situation (outside of mentioning retribution I mean) or Caelum (maybe some leftover loyalty to Veronica?)  etc. She has the one most inspiring speech, and the comic gives a lot of love to toons and the other candidates.

Heathen: ... I didn't get it.  I mean, the election is not a scratch. Soooo... was it a simulation? Hey hey, I'm gonna try this.

“Otakutaylor”: ShowHide
- SUMIKO CAMEO RIGHT OFF THE BAT, rock on you rebellious spiderchild. I honestly love the recap you're giving for this, the way we get full character intros instead of depending on context from the website and WTF REMY GET DOWN AND SHUT UP. I love Conway's commerical interruption. SO MUCH. It seems like you put a lot of care into the character personalities for this, and their abilities. I'm happy to see it! AHHH and Buster bringing up the incidents... I love the toon gags in this. Page 8 has some good expression in that bottom panel of tsumi, but her hair doesn't seem right? its like part of her head is missing, but maybe i'm just used to more stylized proportions. Typo on page 10, "substitute". Something about the smile's scars being drawn like that is really unnerving, really adds to his jarringness. I also really like the smile's reasoning in this. Its nice to see that he's got the weirdest point. I think you hit the smile I thought I wanted to see in a good way. Thank you. Bill Cameo! I apparently don't know much koosh backstory? I am not familiar with any of this. I'll have to look into it.
OHHHHHH dang there's veronica. And lots of cool backstory tie-ins. Nice. Typos again page 16, "opponents". Ohh, Kit, Regie, Johnny? I think. I appreciate the inclusions here.  Pg 17, "collectively". Ayy nice reactions from Xia and Greece. I feel like you got all of void involved in this, in a good way. I feel like it encompasses enough of its citizens to feel like a full and true election. I'd mention to be careful about your hands sometimes, you make these soft hands every now and then that don't seem to fit your more realistic style. You can draw really good hands at other times, so these instances just caught me the wrong way, sorry. Page 20, panel 4 is probably the one that stuck out most to me. OH WOW LOOK AT ALL THOSE KIDS. 88 is there too, and Sanari. Very nice. I enjoyed this a lot! Thank you so much for a good comic. The ending came with a good timing, I had just gotten cozy into the monologue and then, BAM, sniper. And then we got karrin and shizana. This feels. so wholesome somehow. Thank you.

“Fred”: ShowHide
 - gosh darn it fred. You cocktease. I see every penis in that election except Buster's and that's what the whole comic was about. WHY. WHYYYYY FRED.

“Arts”: ShowHide
- okay hey you know what? this is pretty good. The whole thing was sad yet uplifting? like people lost their individual goals but ended up uniting under harlow? I wasn't as emotionally invested in it overall, but I did like it. I think your harlow drawings are coming along really well, and i was happy to see you play with other forms like the toons and tsumi. I wish i could articulate it better but it does feel like something about it is a bit... forced? the narrative seems a little too good to be true, almost like there's no conflict to overcome, Harlow is Just That Good. I think thats what puts me off the story as a whole. THAT SAID I did like it overall, I can't help but love that catman, he is a cat after all.

“Nothin”: ShowHide
 - Dang, Koosh droppin' the truth bombs like its the last ditch effort to get the city to come to its senses. Why is this so relatable?

"Karma": ShowHide
 - I actually forgot to take notes during this because the flow of your comic kinda pulled me in. Even if its not fully finished, everything was pretty clear to me and I appreciated the finished speech balloons, so I got a good sense of Conway's humor and the way the election worked in his reality. I appreciate the anthro uprising and that whole plotpoint in general. I don't have a lot to crit or comment on other than that I enjoyed it.

"Heathen": ShowHide
 - Okay as much as this breaks the normal idea of an election, i can totally see void city being insane enough to do this, but it does mean that the city is intentionally choosing someone cut-throat so to speak. I appreciate the way the story unfolded. I think the last page seemed a little out of place, the lines not having the same contrast as before, and the gray not being present, made it stick out a little bit. I'm not sure if that's intentional or not, but it stood apart from the others.

Look at yall beautiful talented people and your beautiful comics. I love you. Look at Tay and his fucking honest efforts to make a comic of fake politics and ROCK the shit out of it, it's so cool. Look at Goodies giving each candidate their own little vignette, setting up plot and intrigue.  Look at Nothin who made a comic as short as it is strong, leaving all but the necessary parts to hit you with, clean. Look at Karma letting the politics take the back seat to fun and adventure while still very much staying on point. Look at Heathen and the absolute next level inks and cinematography that are used to depict this fun literal battle royale.  Each comic not only enjoyable on it's own, but also a reflection of each candidate in its presentation.  Love it all. A monumental bounty of enjoyable comics. Thank you.

Im not gonna critique but mainly just say how I felt reading each comic, just because i dont have time to critique. (For the people requesting indepth, my apologies, i just dont have time to do that rn.)

Tay: Of all the candidate im lol-ing that people are calling out Tsumi in the audience. I feel like that this comic has a lot of long winded speeches with severely lowers my ability to follow the narrative without getting lost and confused. I think of all of the long winded speeches though, The Smile's was my favorite. Also it was nice to see Veronica show up, and was one of the more entertaining parts of the comic. Love all the cameos, really brings together the bigger picture... That ending however was very abrupt and felt like... It shouldnt have ended there.

Fred: Im not reading your comic cuz nsfw, but thank you so so much for the warning, and im sure its absolutely wonderful!

Arts: I actually really love the way the storytelling is going, and how it feels like its just everyone whining about how somehow Harlow is winning XD I really enjoyed most of this, and how you got around to telling your story, albeit in a way it makes me wonder why people are voting for Harlow. He rebuilt a factory, is the main thing im really getting from this... And I'm confused with how he reacted to The Smile, it felt really bizarre and out of place to me. I really like most of how you portrayed things in this, albeit i feel like it falters a bit in the treatment of The Smile, and how it doesnt feel as justified as could be necessary for Harlow to be that far in the lead. Overall though, i really enjoyed this comic, and your way of revealing information! Was definitely a fun ride. I appreciate how in the end, it makes me wonder if Harlow is going to go super evil.

Nothin: I LOVE THIS COMIC SO MUCH ITS SHORT AND SWEET AND I LOVE KOOSH KOOSH'S REACTION I FEEL LIKE THATS HOW MOST OF VOID PROBABLY FELT!

Karma: First off im gasping at how cute your art is, sad to see there's only one finished page, but your sketches are also super cute! I love seeing Conway tease people (ESPECIALLY THE SMILE THAT INTERACTION WAS SO GOOD) And oh my gosh Harlow seems so so sad. Gosh the way you characterize everyone is just so lovably done, and really a treat to see. Honestly, while i know this comic will get a lower score for incompleteness, that speech Conway is giving honestly would probably be the kind of thing that feels most swaying to me in this royale, to vote for someone.

Heathen: HARLOW LOOKS SO CUTE IN YOUR STYLE WHOA HECK i love the black pages btw, they really add to a feeling of intensity throughout. Kooshkoosh also looks super cute. Heck like... i was not expecting cuteness out of this comic... Also heck that Harlow looks so creepy, and i love it. I feel like the ending felt a bit confusing, not entirely sure what it means, but i take it  everyone except the Smile is probably dead now in this timeline? Really nice work, the ending kind of confuses me, and i also feel like there could've been more pushing things and clarity surrounding the fact they have to kill eachother, but overall i really enjoyed this, and it was hecka impressive.

Uploaded. Super sorry for how incredibly unfinished this is. I did my best to clean it up and make it at least readable so I could get across what the original idea was supposed to be. I honestly feel bad submitting it in this state considering some of the pages are basically cleaned up thumbnails, but I would have felt worse totally defaulting. Lesson learned though. Don't participate in January events because I always drop the ball. orz

So yeah, don't feel obligated to give any feedback on my comic, good or bad. Can't wait to read what everyone else turned in though.

Uploaded, this was honestly a super miserable experience and put me through a terrible depression because I was just overwhelmed with a sense of inadequacy with my current skill level, i get that I'm improving but it doesn't' feel like that means much and I would like to know where I am currently and if i'm doing anything that's actually good.
Also thanks to everyone who supported and listened to me during this while I was being miserable, specially Stylo and Astro who I talked to the most during this and helped support me.
