NICE EFFORT from this group! Now THIS is a nice Scarmageddon matchup :D

GREGLY - Very cute story and nice linework. I can tell you're really confident in your lines, and you should be! You're definitely onto something good. The colors are a not the best here, because they're consistently uneven to the point of being distracting. I don't have a problem with the choice of colors themselves, but the care in which you've applied them. They do seem like an afterthought here, and I think it holds back what is an otherwise really enjoyable tale! But good work overall!

COLDSHOULDERAVE - Such bold, strong lines. Inky, graphical--I really enjoy your style, now more than ever really. I would say you'd be my pick for winning comic of this group.  The only think I can think to add is that you could try variety of backgrounds or shades/textures next time. I do love the lines, but there could be more variation in their thickness and so forth. Overall, really cool comic.

BOBO - Oh god that first page splash musta taken you forever! The hard work paid off, though, because it's really lovely. The background and architecture in this comic are really astonishingly good, I'm so impressed. The tension was building so much in these short pages I was bummed it wasn't finished, but I like what I saw.

TDK - I can see you've made an effort to make your art look more "complete"--backgrounds, poses, and all that good stuff. However, similar to Gregly's, I think any color here is too much of an afterthought and shouldn't have been added. Be really careful on certain places with line quality (page 6 is an example, with the men's legs at the bottom). You don't have to make thick, bold lines--think ones are fine, even scratchy if the scene calls for it--as long as you try and keep your line quality looking *complete* and deliberate. Don't let lines fade out or wander off (not closing shapes is part of this) or else it can make the art look sloppy or rushed. If there is a think scratchy line, make the reader believe you *meant* for it to be there, and not just because you got lazy, okay? I hope that makes some sense anyway! :D Keep it up, TDK.

JULZ - Great lines as always. Backgrounds are also really pleasing--that is one lush forest! I think your text is still a bit rushed-looking and too scribbly in places. Legibility is seriously underrated by many artists. Since we Voiders are pretty well trained to be all-purpose creators (writing/drawing/colors/text) its important not to let certain areas suffer too much. Congrats on the win!

Your guys' comics were so great! A lot of this has already been said but here's some thoughts.

Gregly, I had soo much fun reading your comic. The characters all feel so well captured and I loved the way you showed Auddie in her purest form.  It was a really naturally developed story. I enjoyed this comic most of all.

Bobo: I was just immediately blown away by the amount of work you did. That line art was just so delicious, it was great finding all the little details. And I loooooooooved the way you drew Auddie!!!

TDK: Your story was definately the most intricate and well presented story arc. Everything was wrapped up neatly and was just a very interesting read.

Julz: You're comic was hilarious, unique and your backgrounds were fantastic. I loved how you played around with Auddie. I definately was not expecting it but it'll be interesting to see where she goes from here.

I have to admit once the semester started I was really kicking myself for signing up. Now that everyone is finished I'm so glad I did it.

Gregly: You have awesome story telling skills and I always look forward to seeing your comics, especially with the fun style you have goin' on! Your characters always seem to have excellent interactions and the dialogue is very fluid and feels real. You had pretty awesome background's going on in the beginning, but then they kind of... disappeared. Not sure if that was intentional, but if it was because of time constraints, I think sacrificing the coloring for more backgrounds would have worked better. As for the coloring, not digging the holes in it, it looks sloppy. Also, I definitely agree with Puzzlething! You have sooo many opportunities to go to town with expressions! Dooo iiiit!

ColdShoulderAve: Hooo man I love your lining style it is teh sex. Those textures and line variety just... love love love! I'm pretty  much going with what everyone else has said about how stiff and emotionless your characters are. This one is me being super nit picky,  but that is a horrible way to hold a knife on p. 11 on the last panel. Knives have a handle for a reason :x Also, don't be afraid to try some edgy camera angles! Everything is pretty shot from straight on... You could have really played up the action by messing with the camera angle a bit.

Bobo: You tease, you! I do hope you finish this because what you've displayed is phenomenal and I want moooaaarrr! I can't get over how amazing the perspective is and my favorite is that off kilter shot. Sooooo amazing. I do agree with Gregly though with some of the panels being too itty bitty and not being able to fully see what's going on.

TDK: That was a pretty in-depth story for everyone and I liked your scars the best. Your lines need a bit more confidence in them, the thicker lines look a bit shakey. I understand why you used color for the flashbang sequence, but I think they amount of shading you did/character reactions in those panels made the message clear enough that those colors weren't needed. Or, like pineapple pocky said, you could have used different colors for the dark club scene. I'm a little confused on where Nyasuu was the whole time? Was she the masked soldier? It looks like she was with Elle given the scenario at the end, but I think I missed where she was through out the story.

Julz: Your style is ultra cute and I would have really liked to see your style interpreting everyone else's characters! It looks like you tried to draw their characters in their artists' style. Your backgrounds and and the forest scene are sooo pretty and intricate! I'm a little confused on the action sequencing on P. 6... maybe I'm reading it wrong, but it looks like Gwen is blasted, falls on her butt, and then somehow gets launched into a bush? I mean the dialogue was super funny, I was just confused on how I should be reading the panels. And Auddie's Lumberjack fate is incredibly awesome haha

Gregly: very solid story and nice humor. Your coloring can get rough at places. When coloring, it might be helpful to use a different color background to paint over, and remove it afterwards. I see lots of holes in the coloring and I don't know if it's intentional or not. Or maybe try using a larger brush?

Coldshoulderave: Speedlines can only do so much to convey emotion. You need to express emotion from your characters  by both facial and body movement. It's hard to tell if they're happy, scared, or whatever. Their faces are very static, and even when you make them look angry you can barely tell the difference.

Bobo: This is really nice for what it is, but you might have been too ambitious to finish the rest of this. Other than that, no comment.

TDK: Page two threw me off, I don't think it was necessary. Regarding colors, I'd like to point out there's more to the color spectrum than vivid colors. Colors that were much more dulled down would have given a better darker effect. If your intention was something other than shadows, then you probably should have removed it. Since you have a grasp of how visuals would work, It would probably be a good idea to start working on sound effects more (since your main character has a gun). Are you drawing on a tilt? It could be my imagination, but all your images are slightly warped on one side. My neck muscles are weaker on one side than the other, so all my drawings have a very tiny perspective issue and I often have to adjust the images back so the shape looks exactly how I saw it when my neck is on a tilt. You could either fix it by using the transform perspective tool on photoshop (I don't know about any other programs), or you can try drawing on a tilt on top of a board on books, or on the edge of a board on a table. Unfortunately for me, my perspective issue isn't vertical, it's horizontal, so I have to deal with this stuff through photoshop.

Julz: I am not sure if it was your intention, or the fact that some of our
artists in void have super different drawing styles that make it hard to imagine in your head how you'd draw it yourself, but it's quite obvious with Gwen and Regi that it sticks out. It is often in the amount of detail you stick on a character, and the shape of their eyes. The rest is really up to you how you give your special touch to it. I'e seen Gwen look like she's 17 in some void comics just because her eyes were shrunk down (instead of how googly they are in gregly's comics).

overall pretty good! couple things;

coldshoulder, I didn't really.. get the setup? they're just THERE and then there's a fish person that kinda gives them motive.. I dunno. but it looked nice for the most part.

tdk, I hate the screenshot page enough to point it out here. but your comic was actually an interesting read, and I hope to see more like it.

julz, best surprise ending!

now if only these were all finished :I

Although more successful overall compared to your counterparts, you all fell into the same trap same as them...granted the majority of you did not fall as hard as they did

I will not give a breakdown as much of what needs to be said has been. What does need to be said is this;
You are all at different skill levels and most likely have different constraints on your time so I don't expect the same from all of you...with one exception......after 5 weeks I would expec representative of your normal level of work if not better.....and I would definitely expect complete
Less can be more....a well crafted short story is always better than a halfassed novel and far better than an unfinished odyssey....too many people shooting too far and too high

probably should get around to doing this!

CSA: This is less cartoony than your previous comics but I like the way this looks, especially the way you drew Elle. It seemed a little odd to me that Nyasuu loses her whole arm and everyone else gets relatively small scars.

Bobo: That first page is nice but it seems like all the action happens way in the background and I cant really tell what happens. Is Regi's scar that his shoulder-boxes are shoulder-circles now? I'm excited to see the stuff you planned if you finish the rest of this comic!

TDK:Most people's comics were an event where everyone gets scarred and then the aftermath... you went against the grain and did a couple of separate events which works better for Elle and her story I think. The only thing I couldn't follow very well was the part with Auddie, everything else is well paced and very readable. Yours is my favorite, I think.

Julz: Your inks are bubbly and cartoony and always look sweet. After I read it I remembered how you said you had accidently deleted a page, but I couldn't tell while I was reading so good job getting the page up to the same level as the others in a short amount of time. The only problem I had was that everyone escaping was all unresolved, but I think you did that on purpose.

Super great comics from everyone overall! Nice work!!

Gaddamn these comics. Yesssssss

Gregly            -

Ahahaha, so cute dude. I just love the succession of drunk people filtering out of the bar to try and save the day, ending with the completely wasted Ancelin. Alot of the problems in your comic come from the rush, but there is one thing I think you could work on. You could totally be using more squash and stretch in your peeps faces to accentuate their expressions. It's like, because of your style you have this great opportunity to get really crazy with it and have it still work, but you keep their head/faces fairly solid and static. Start mushing around that skull meat!

      ColdShoulderAve           -

Man, I love this highly textured style your using here. It really heightens the mood of the comic. The only problem is that while your characters look great at rest, they look awkward and stiff when they make big action-y movements. Like alot of Ancelins attacks don't feel very dynamic. I think it's partially the highly textured rendering, and partially a dip in your line quality sometimes. I think if you'd used the same economy of line you used in the middle of the three "Auddie drowning" panels it would've worked really well. You do a wonderful job creating motion in that pose with only a few really amazingly done lines.

Such a coo, creepyl comic dude, awesome work.

Bobobobobobobobobo          -

YOU MAKE ME CRY SO MUCH. This is like the ghost of an amazing comic, there's so much potential here, my god! You're so so so much better at like everything from the last time I saw your stuff. Your characters and structure are so much stronger, so much more charming. I love love love the way you draw Auddie. I love the way you're setting up your pages and camera! Your interiors have a lot of interesting people and crowd stuff going on, but once again they feel a little huge, empty, and featureless. It' so jarring going from that AMAZING birds eye view of the ruined city, to this weird mall that has like no storefronts.

Bobo, I need to see you finish a super great comic now, because I can tell it'll blow my mind. As it is you're just teasing me with what could be, you jerk!

TDK           -

Weird Scars are best scars. You layed down some pretty harsh stuff, and I always love seeing that during scar matches. My favorite part was definitely the Gwen and Regi bit. You drew them both really well, and your Gwen dialogue had alot of personality.

That single, heavy outline you're using on your characters isn't really working for me. It makes everyone feel like cardboard cutouts. Remember to pull your heavily lines into the interior of your characters to suggest weight and depth. You still have problems getting your lines expressive, have you ever tried using something like a nib pen to ink? I just think it'd be easier for you to improve your line weight variation if you were using a tool that's naturally better at that sort of thing.

          Julz               -

I'm not super into it when you hatch with a brush that has no pressure sensitivity. Like all your other lines are so expressive and amazing that it really stands out. It's looks great when you use it in moderaton, like for small bits of texture on the foliage and people, but it looks really weird when you use it alot, like in the hatching on Auddie and Elle. It almost makes them feel like they don't fit in the world. Kinda the same with Gwen, except with her it's just because you didn't really change her face to have it fit in with your style.

Besides that (and alot of white halo's around dudes) I'm totally in love with comic. Everything is so soft and lovely. I can't get enough of your people, and all that lovely foliage. I struggle alot with organic stuff, so it's inspiring to such a gorgeous forest. I can't gush enough how much I just love the way you make lines.

Also, magical lumberjack Auddie is hands down the best scar in the tournament. NO CONTEST.

AMAZING WORK EVERYONE!

Gregly: A fun story as usual - For some reason I love how your lettering looks with your art. And I approve all booze-related comics. As previously mentioned, backgrounds needed!

ColdShoulderAve: Quality work and some weirdness I can appreciate. I dig the way you use line. The one problem I have with this comic is that all the characters are introduced quite abruptly, and it can get a bit confusing switching around each of the characters.

Bobo: Backgrounds! It seems like you ran out of time, but I enjoyed the art a lot. Your interiors on the first page were quite starkly empty compared to the back splash. Nice quality overall.

TDK: I like when you use heavy black, though the choice in spot colour was quite weird. Backgrounds need work. However your story pretty great. You gave each character a decent representation, and the character development for Elle was interesting.

Julz: Holy hell, your art has improved a lot since I was last on void. Trees I like. I'm not normally a fan of the absurd humour but I laughed at this comic. It works because it's got good pacing. My favourite overall.

Noice work from everybody! It's good to see nobody with unintelligible scribble pages.

These scars are ridonkulous. XD

GREGLY- Good story, but those backgrounds man. Give the world your character are running around in some love! I liked where this was going, but kept getting too distracted with the vacuum of space this story was taking place in.  Pretty wicked scars though

BOBO- Even tho it looks like you left us with only half the story, the pages you did share were simply beautiful. So very striking and soo much love for your environments and backgrounds. That interior mall page was my fav.

TEN DEA KINGS- I'm gotta lay on some honest spoonfuls here: your art and pages were the last ones I read. They weren't particularly interesting and visually shuffled to the back as your opponents took the forefront. That said I was really impressed with your story not to mention the creative choice of scars. You could tell you really looked at your opponents and chose the scars given according to their characters. I mean turning a master child villain into a hero may not be physically visible, but it is indeed a staggering blow. Way to think outside the box!
COLDSHOULDERAVE- Yoooou. I like you. you are my new favorite person. Your inks are rich, thick and visually striking and I spent my time deliberating over whether or not it was traditional, digital or a clever mingle of both. Reveal your secrets sometime. Also, battle me. Your scar choices scared me.

JULZ- Your battles never fail to have me in stitches and this is no exception. I literally laughed out loud at auddie's 'scar. Are you sure your fighter isn't a cartoon? :0

Gregly: Maaaan, your storytelling always gets me! I love all of the character interactions going on in this comic, and the story flowed really well. There were quite a few spots where it wasn't very clear who was saying what (speech bubble tails not very clear, etc.), so watch out for that in the future. The coloring was fun; obviously a rush job, but I like seeing color even if it's incomplete. My only real issue with your comic is that I'm not sure if a haircut counts as a scar hahah.

ColdShoulderAve: I love your style, and Auddie really creeped me out in this one. I have to admit that I felt like a lot of the dialogue was pretty forced. Auddie's personality shone through great, but a lot of the other characters felt kind of flat. Also, you skipped a lot of action shots, showing the wind-up and the aftermath without the actual impact. Your story would have been a lot more entertaining if I had seen more of those fist-hitting-the-face moments. For example, I don't even know how Ancelin got her scar in your comic. It just kind of appeared when she was attacking Auddie as far as I can tell. I hope to see more from you because I love your stuff and you get better with each comic, so just watch out for those couple pitfalls.

TDK: Interesting read. I felt like the premise (testing out weapons) got lost in the effort to further the plot. I would have expected the weapons themselves to be featured more prominently if that were the whole reason for the operation. Also, I'm not a fan of memes and references, which seem to make up a lot of your comics. I encourage you to focus more on characters and their personalities instead of relying on gags and references to entertain your readers.

Julz: I don't know if you did this intentionally, but as soon as I read "Nyasuu and Ancelin" on page 3, I automatically thought "sitting in a tree." If you did that on purpose, it was brilliant. If not, I guess I'm brilliant? I always love your silly stories, and I swear your art just gets better with each comic. Auddie cracked me up so much. Her face just... I love it.

Thanks for the battle everyone, and good luck!

We will be reviewing each comic before it is posted. Make sure you:
1. INCLUDE EVERY CHARACTER.
2. CLEARLY GIVE EACH CHARACTER A SCAR.

If you do not meet these requirements, then unfortunately this is considered a default and your pages will not be posted.

Please be patient tomorrow while we go through each comic, do thumbnails, and remove any invalid comics (hopefully there won't be any!).

With your characters, I would think they just have to scar Johnny. The dinos aren't part of her as a character, although that's probably debatable. I don't know if there's an official rule on this, though. I'll bring it up with the mods.

Do we have to scar both Gwen and Regi, or just one of them? I'm gonna scar both just for fun, but it might be nice to clarify that.
