Hobbittastic's characters

Hobbittastic's characters
« on: Jul 24, 2012, 10:30 PM »

This is Boom. She's a little witch girl. I know these poses are a bit static, it was just to show off the outfit designs. Boom is 110 because i like easy math, 4' 8" and very adorable. She is cute, honest- pretty much a normal little girl.

Sometimes I like to ruin whatever moment is going on, serious or silly, and give her faces like the one above.

Any comments or advice would be great! Thanks!

You've got a servicable design sheet here, so I suggest getting work done on intros!

Also silly faces are baller.

Oh thank you! I just noticed the colors didn't 100% translate from working on my laptop screen to my desktop, so I need to fix it up a little. I'm planning on having the intro comic by Sunday. She has a sister-figure I need to post along with normal sketches I have of them.

She looks great! And she'll fit right on in. Can't wait to see some pages by you.

Did I say, "Sunday"? I meant "Hooray, I quit my crappy college job!" Been busy so I'm actually doing the page now. In the mean time, here is Boom's (not biological) sister, Meredith! She's the green one!!

Meredith is elegant and graceful, but gets bent out of shape easily. She's 119-years-old, 5' 6". She is 3/4 Elvish, 1/4 Orc. I'll have to scan the design sheets, but her catch is that she can take herself apart in sort of a Sally from "The Nightmare Before Christmas" way due to a magic potion she has to drink daily. She also has classic magical powers, in which she has been trained in. Boom is a family friend whom she has adopted as her little sister due to unfortunate events. I love making Meredith work for the good things in her life; I feel it makes her relatable.

Intro comic will be posted some time tomorrow. Thanks for the nice replies!

you have very strong underlying skills which you need to build on thru practice and pushing yourself .....don't gum up the works by doing sloppy rushed work..... its not acceptable when you are clearly capable of doing better

this is hobbittastic's back of a napkin - notebook doodle - goofing around stuff........show us some spit and polish best hobbittastic can do comic stuff...because I can clearly see you are capable of much better than this.....you just aren't putting in the effort and time required to do so and are just holding yourself back

also for a visual aid - go look at Corny's work for comics on main site and her art posts here in forumhttp://entervoid.com/index.php?action=profile;u=1014
she was still in grade school for christ sakes which still blows my mind and I think you would benefit from seeing how she learned to apply herself to her artwork and by studying her overall progress

You 100% caught me. My intro comic was done in about 2 days. No disrespect meant, of course. I have trouble doing things like comics and blogs, so I figured if I did EnterVoid, I would make it as fun for me to do as possible; which basically means doodling and extra silliness. But if you want to see my full on professional, best work, you got it! I hope at least you enjoyed reading the comic. I can see EnterVoid was a good place for me to come, because everyone seems to want everyone to do the best they can. As far as Corny, I will totally look at her work. Thanks so much for the crit! I honestly appreciate it.

I said I'd put this up, so I will. These are the roughed out rules to Meredith's body. She has 14 breaking lines total. You can read the rules for yourself (sorry about my awesome handwriting).

So this is Zach. He's 27 and he has been literally cursed with amnesia (will cover in intro comic; it's a surprise) and his hair is white from it. The rules for his amnesia are kinda like "50 First Dates" in the way that he can remember things up until the curse, but after that it kind of resets for him, but he knows his situation. He'll leave notes out for himself or on his phone, but if something prevents him from doing so, at midnight his memory resets without any cheat sheet. He is good-natured and more trusting than he should be (you'd think he would have learned his lesson).

I might change his hair to be longer? I'm not sure? Here is a front and side view (no back because it's just exactly what you think it'd be), some faces and a pose. Let me know what you think!

What happened to Boom and Meredith? Did a polished and more improved intro comic happen that wasn't posted here? Are they in and approved yet?

Oh, they are characters of mine in a big story of their own, but Gregly suggested I use them here. Then Pixel Princess happened and I got side tracked with her. Maybe I should redo their intro comic... it'd at least be a huge art difference from the first post to now. Guess I'll just have to submit all of them for Void ;)

From personal experiance, it can be very hard to use characters with a big story of their own on VOID. The best way to to be flexible with it, but have major events that still have to happen. That way, you can have fun with regular battles.
- I yearn for redemption, but I'll settle for a breakfast sandwich.

If I did use them on Void, and I'd like to, it'd have nothing to do with their story but just a use of character. Like a big exercise in how they'd act in different situations; it doesn't have to be canon or anything. I'd like to do a webcomic of them but it'd be such a huge undertaking and I already have a webcomic (Babe Warp) that needs updating.

That's why I enjoy Zach and Pixel; because they don't already have a big story I have to worry about outside of Void. Their stories are Void.

giving up on Zach so I can enter these babies. Also, secretly working on a second cartoon of them~

Redoing their intro comic in the next few days

Look at these old babies (:

Also, I always like seeing this picture. The brown hair girl is Meredith's gf, Orenda.

should I draw Boom's pj dress like the second picture? With the puffs and the bow? I feel like her current outfit doesn't have enough going on, but I also don't mind it.

Updating Boom's outfit:

i was drawing some random stuff/outfits

and i really liked it-

so i drew it a few times

her original blue dress is suppose to be pjs, but that's from an older version of their story and it might be unnecessary now.
it's basically the same only with a few more details.

i'll do an official update along with a comic showing off meredith's cool powers/backstory
