for all that were able to turn something in good job and also it's cool to work from somoene else's script and if any of your choose to coming back to this at a better time and doing a full version as a BB would be cool to see since even the incomplete ones started off solid, I don't have much to say for all of them but I have a couple things for some of them.

Pita: I love what you did with the aslyum guy and his general expressions and gesture were really good, also even though incomplete your 4th page was really good as well.

Pizza: congrats on finishing your first comic on void, i really like the way you did the different tones it's also good to see a more trad comics and look forward to seeing more of your stuff.

Kent: I wanna see more pages like this this is really good and i like the one color and the rest

Reecer: You're humor is great and having the dissonance between the art and what's being said really worked for me, I kind of wanna see you do more with this with very serious dialogue but nonsensical comedic art.

Sunrise: You're style works for horror and i would like to see you do more in this style. I will bring up the crit it looks like you're using a basic font which can be distracting and i would recommend getting a custom free font from online since those are meant for comics.

Desi: I really have been enjoying your backgrounds you have been adding your own character to them now and they have been getting better recently being special to your style.

Boogidibzdo- This isn’t my style of humor either but I do like the part on page 1 with the crashing into the church. One recommendation I can think of is that you could make the spacing/leading between the lines of text in the speech bubbles more narrow; I think your speech bubbles generally can get pretty big when you could have them quite a bit smaller and still stay readable.

Pita- I like your layouts and expressions, and that full page spread is looking especially nice!

Thefrigginpizzaman- I’m having trouble reading your text but your shading is really nice and sets the mood well, I like page 4 panel 5 as it kind of gives me the feeling that the gargoyles are slowly turning to look towards us.

Kent- This page is looking fantastic, the architecture is really nicely detailed and the spots of red really make those panels pop. Good stuff!

Reecer- You did a great job turning this into something hilarious, I like how you were able to stick really close to the script but still change it so drastically. The “victor” and “nnnn” panels are my personal favorites hahaha

Sunrise- your style suits the script super well and adds a lot to the mood, it looks great and I love it! My only nitpick is that the font could be switched out with maybe a more comic style font and that the letters get a bit close to the edges of the speech bubbles.

Desi- your designs here are looking really nice, both for the building itself and the characters. I also like the muted color palette!

Heathen- your layouts are creative and the full page spread has really interesting composition, I really like the expression on page 5 panel 3 as well!

These were all really fun to read! I've attempted some feedback just focusing on my main thoughts.

BOOGIDIBZDO - I like how expressive your art is, its clear that you had a lot of fun with your drawings and just going wild with expressions and poses. My lower entertainment score was more out of preference since this sort of humour isn't for me. There were also a few perspective/ anatomy issues (panel 1 pg 2 for example).

PITA- I really love how clear your art is and the layouts really easy to follow even though it's unfinished. The last panel is so impactful, a great example of using greyscale too its fullest. In terms of crit...hmm, I suppose if I were to be picky the monster designs could have been more unique.

THEFRIGGINPIZZAMAN- My favourite thing about this comic is your use of lighting, it successfully creates a creepy atmosphere. (the last 2 panels of pg 2 are my favourites) In terms of crit my biggest one is the text. It's too small and cramped, I couldn't read a lot of it which is a shame.

MISTER KENT- I love this page so much. Your lines are really clean and your use of red in the colouring is fantastic. With just a colour I could make the connection that the man in the final panels was distressed by whatever's in the church. Really cool visual storytelling. It's just a shame there aren't more pages!

REECER6- This is so damn funny. Probably the most enjoyable read of the bunch! In terms of crit, some of the poses/ expressions were a little stiff and the characters looked a tad basic, but due to the comedic tone, It didn't take away from the overall experience. This comic just worked for me, I had a lot of fun reading it!

SUNRISE- I told you in person. I really love your style, it works so well for horror. :3

DESICHAN- You character designs are really appealing, I also like how you drew the monster. Its big cute eyes and gangly frame is oddly unsettling haha. I quite enjoy seeing "horror" in an unconventional style so this was a fun read.

HEATHEN- Despite the fact, these are just pencil roughs I could still follow all the beats of the story, the quality of your art really shines through. Its a real shame you never got a chance to finish this, but I understand that life can get in the way.

First I want to say how excited I was to see so much interest in this kind of event.  And even though it became difficult for you guys to finish, I think it's understandable.  Even so, I'm excited by what I see here.  You guys put in legit effort and though unfinished, it is very fun to see the different styles and approaches to the same material.  I think that is a big part of the fun of this sort of exercise.  I'm especially happy to see the newcomers throw their efforts into the ring as well.

Sunrise, I enjoyed your style in particular and would love to see more from you.

Pita, nice layouts!

Heathen, your pages are excellent.

TheFrigginPizzaman, you made it to the end of the script.  I can understand why most of you were afraid to tackle the splash page but it's great you were able to make a solid entry.  Please let's see more of your work.

Desi, nice character designs.  They're the most inventive reinterpretations.

Mr. Kent, I love the potential here.  The limited palettes are fantastic and I'd love to see more of that in your comics.

All in all, I'm glad we did this.  It's the first of its kind on Void.  Sean likes to switch up the challenges for Short and Sweet so the next one will be something different but we'll definitely bring back the Script Challenge perhaps with a tweak or two.  I'd especially like to hear from the people involved what they thought would have made this challenge better.  Suggestions are welcome.  While people may have found it frustrating this time, I think there is still value in doing more of these and I hope you guys will still take on the challenge in the future.

Boogi: I have to wonder if people are rating your pages lower for not following the script, but I thought your embellishments on the first page were hilarious, and even if page 2 was nowhere in the script, I kind of want to see where it was going.

Pita: Very solid effort, and nice choice of moody gray textures. Your last panel is just how I envisioned it, and didn’t have time to do properly myself. Your action is also very clear, and follows the script well.

Pizzaman: I like your style and how you took liberties with the panel counts and layouts. I really like the seamless transition from the church doorway to the full shot of them talking on page 1.

Kent: This is the best page I’ve seen you do, and the single best page in this battle. The accent color, the detail inserts on panel 1, the character designs... this page is fantastic. Very good work!

Reecer: I don’t have much to say about this comic, it’s hilarious, and had me rolling the whole way through. Love it. As the deadline crept closer, I had considered going comedic with mine, but it wouldn’t have been this funny. I like how we both did the exact same impractically huge arched doors.

Sunrise: Probably my favorite style of the bunch for this particular comic. I like your decision to do a period piece, and the art is appropriately creepy. Would love to see some more horror from you.

Desi: It’s always fun to see how you bend a setting to your style. Nice page!

My time on VCast was very useful and so now I'm really reading other people's stuff and I try to leave some comments
now.

Baby's first critiques begins now....

ABOUT MY OWN SUBMISSION: I did what I had to do to survive.

@Pita: The panels that were fully rendered were very well done. The movements depicted in your figures were very fluid especially on page 5. I really liked how you illustrated the light glowing from the skull on page 5, that was cool looking.
Page 4 was impressive with all the gargoyles flying around it really gives the reader a sense of how overwhelmed the Psychiatrist and medium are.

@TheFrigginPizzaMan: Good job on your first comic here! I liked your choice of camera angles here. Particularly on page 2 panel 6. I liked how you place the characters there which emphasized how much there is to explore in the church.  Your choice of lighting for the psychiatric hospital scenes was good, because the room inside was relatively dim and the only light there was that coming through the window bars from outside, that really added to the mood of the scene.

@Mister Kent: I liked how you popped in a little color here, making the moon red and those four little panel's backgrounds red. It was like a highlighter for me, indicating important elements in the story. The way you drew the church was amazing, with all the detail, especially in the interior shots.

@Reecer6: Your coloring is really good, it was like watching an animated movie. It's nice to see you put your own humorous twist on certain elements like the crucifix with the smiley face and the gargoyles with wielding various weapons. The mysterious figures sitting in the pews were a unique blend of funny yet still haunting and it added to the chaos in the cursed church. I liked your design for the church too.

@Sunrise: Your inks here really compliment the script, it was very fitting. It was interesting to see how you used only black and white to illustrate this and it looks pretty cool. I liked how you designed the characters.

@Desichan: You applied your own unique style to all the designs and I really like that, it was refreshing.

@Heathen: You did a great job on capturing all the action. These pencil sketches are interesting to look at, and if they were inked I'm sure they'd be mind blowing.

So, everyone did good job!

I appreciate everyone who signed up for this event and showed interest. I understand that life can get the best of us and we can lose steam along the way, but that's totally okay! Thank you for everyone who participated!

I will also have more comments for each comic later today, but I just want to say everyone who got any part of this done did something I really liked!

Even with unfinished stuff across the board, these comics were tons of fun to look at! I definitely want to see more fixed script challenges in the future.

I only managed to get it penciled, but it’s all there. Fun pages, though, I might ink them and post later. Looking forward to seeing what everyone was able to get done!

Super sympathetic you all have been having so many problems ;_; Making comics can really be a luxury some times.

Fortunately, I do have my comic finished, if a bit rough in places!

Much like most others here these past weeks have been extremely busy and taxing for me, so apologies for the poor show on my part. I'm eager to see what we've all got done in spite of hardship!

Just so you know, I heckin' hate this comic.
I know it's not my best.  There are small victories (page 4 is pretty cool and I drew a background you guys!)

Props for even drawing page four just thinking about drawing that splash page was scarier than the entire comic! Needless to say I cut that page almost immidiately rip.

Pita: As we stare into the void, I say softly
"Just try and take me down."

Though let's be real, I don't think this will be my best.

Gonna be in “May not finish this” boat because of an awful combination of health issues, work, and sudden flux of commission work. It happened the day after the timer started OTL

Jetty Jay: Hey guys, a heads up - apparently my involvement in Short & Sweet is CURSED (hopefully no dumb baby label for me this time) because once again a whirlwind of stuff happened to me almost immediately after drawing time began (thankfully good stuff this time, I got a very big and good job after a month of scary unemployment in a country where I am ineligible for benefits, and an offer to make art for a board game which is one of my big 2019 goals). I will still try push out a comic in the remaining time now that things are calming down and I have a bit more spare energy, but just a heads up it won’t be at the appropriate level of quality/finished - so apologies.

It is alright.  Life happens.  This is meant to be a fun challenge.  So I think as long as you turn something in you can be proud of your effort.  Also congrats in the job!
