Reign: Great clean and crisp art and like Crocostyle a good old school superhero style story :D Bout time more characters popped up that were like the Void of old :P

The lion king criticism was pretty harsh, it's like saying anyone who draws robots is copying from a Transformers colouring in book -_-

While reading this I thought of an alternate name for your character: Leorion dunno why but it just came to me lol
Anyways, great job and can't wait to see upcoming battles!

I've come to terms with the fact that Astroleo is the imaginings of a fifteen year old boy and I'm fine with that.  Everyone is totally welcome to make fun of him for it.  Characters could also suggest/workshop betternames as a running gag.

Just wanna say congrats again on getting in! For someone who claims to struggle writing, this is solid storytelling.  It's good, old-school superhero biz, and that's great for Void City!

Heathen: Hell yeah, Void is sorely lacking in Superhero types these days. Welcome to the fray!

Julz: Alright alright. If you were really going off a real lion, it's understandable. The body just reaally resembled that style is all, and I was encouraging you to branch out. I guess I was kinda being a bully with the coloring book remark, but I am just so tired of seeing TLK lions.
Quote

I understand that.  I made a point to differentiate my lions from TLK by removing the eyebrows and just focusing on moving the eyebrow ridge and eyes/eyelids for emotiion.

If you want to see a NON TLK big cat I just posted one in the discord server art share.

Julz:
You're welcome to think that but by that same logic imo, the boy is also unoriginal by merit of looking like other teenage boys.

Using reality as a reference isn't unoriginal, its structurally accurate. Your lion looks like it was traced out of a TLK coloring book. It's criticism. Learn to take it please.

And yet I don't use a TLK coloring book.

I use real lion refs as much s possible.  You can make a critique and that's fine, and I can think it's unfair.  Saying someone is tracing out of a lion king coloring book is really harsh, dude.  It's really unfair.

If you wanted to say that I need to study anatomy more so my lion looks less stiff or something, then fine.  That's totally fair and I'd take that.

But telling me that it looks traced or is unoriginal is a poor excuse for critique and saying 'it's critique, learn to take it' is a poor excuse for poor critique.  Sorry, but... it's just not a good critique.

Honestly I don't think it's that bad, it's mainly just that it's a lion, I think you're being a bit harsh. ofcourse he could do more to push it. Like in the ref sheet it mentions he glows in the dark but there isn't much glowing on the lion so working on some effects for that could help. But really it is mainly just a lion so it's going to look like other lions.  also for my own crits I try to offer a solution to any problems I see. so maybe one solution would be emphasizes and working on glow effects for the lion.

Julz: I love lions but the design is very unoriginal. It looks like a Lion King OC to me, and I can't stop getting distracted by it. Maybe work on some lion design originality?

You're welcome to think that but by that same logic imo, the boy is also unoriginal by merit of looking like other teenage boys.  The style is also distinct from TLK considering how I don't humanize the face IE eyebrows and I'm content with that. There is such a thing as over designing and Orion was always intended to be more of a supporting role.

I think a better critique would be that I should learn to draw lions better to make them even more distinct from TLK.

CONGRATS ON GETTING IN, FRIEND!!!

I thought this was a neat comic, I especially found your narration style great, it reminded me of movies like Narnia and the like and I'm interested to see where you go from here. Very reminiscent of more stylized superhero comics and impressive to a T!

congrats on getting in. I really like how you manage to show the personality of both of these characters in this comic pretty well. seems like a great character for the time considering the retribution event currently going on since there are a bunch of lawless people looking for a lawful character to fight and there aren't many just straight up heroes on void right now. so welcome and good luck I look forward to seeing how his powers work.
