SKULLS- You've experimented with various styles and ways to make comics on this site and I've followed each and every single one, but I honestly think this has to be your best. It doesn't feel too overblown or ornate. Or too dramatic with super heavy shadows and spot blacks. This definitely feels you in the sense that it seems to marry your comic making skills and inspirations as well as your animation background without being too rough and messy. I think you may have found something here and I hope you keep it up for some of your battles going forward.
I really can't wait to see what you do with this build up of Xia feeling lonely and abandoned by her friends. Abusing the hooch seems like its really getting to her. Also fist bump of appreciation for the dog room and all the adorable doggos in this comic A+

REECER- Gads Invyn is such a pill. XD I know there's a space for this kind of comic, and I fully understand the characters personality traits and motivations, I suppose I wanted more than just a discreet exit by the comics end. Still, the interactions were engaging and Jasper is always good to cut the awkwardness with even more awkward, lol

I enjoyed both of these, they kinda felt like a Bo Jack Horseman episode in some aspects.

Cracking Skulls: Overall a very cute story. I like the colored line work. I don't want to go on about the parts that look rushed as others have addressed this.

The backgrounds look nice, when they are there. But I wish there were more particularly in some of the smaller panels where it's just portraits/waist up of of the characters talking. For example, I think page 6 looks fine and more balanced because you included a bit more of the bg in the panels. A lot of the previous pages seem imbalanced in terms of detail.

Not bad, though. This was a fun comic.

Reecer: I think for the most part you're pretty good at composition when it comes to your pages. I like how they flow, there are somethings that can be improved. for example I think panel 3 of page 3 is a bit of an odd choice. Why show the reaction of the triceratops, who's easy to miss on the 2nd page instead of showing the reaction of the armed men in front of the door? We do see them more and they are easier to distinguish. Maybe it's nit picking, but I think it's worth noting for future reference.

Also the poses on the figures are a bit distracting at times, like a little too under researched. The person holding the gun for example on page 3. Generally you'd hold the gun with both arms stretched out a bit. The elbow being bent in while the gun is in  the angle it's in looks rather awkward. Then there are sometimes when the characters are a little too loose in the way you draw them. Where are Xia's elbows in the last panel of page 5? I think studying/practicing to stylize people's skeletal structure would help out with this.

I really enjoyed the later dialogue in this comic though, it was nicely written and felt natural to me. Still a solid comic in my opinion.

Awesome job on both of these, I can't vote yet, but good luck!!

I guess I should acknowledge this right now because it's kind of a popular issue.

Regarding the borders: Changing them on a per comic basis is very much against my whole idea for them being there, I have no intention of actually switching out the design entirely for the time being. The point of them basically is just, I have late 2000's web design nostalgia. The thing where websites are covered in shiny unique art assets everywhere that really customize it and give it its own tone, right? Imagine Newgrounds. I'm basically only doing this to replicate having a neat background image, since the page for each comic is such a blank slate. And to that point, you don't change out your site background very often because it sets the mood, and you don't want mood dramatically changing week to week. At some point, yeah, it'll get old, and you can mix it up, throw something hugely different back there, but there's gotta be a period sameiness. That's the way I see it, at least.

I still really like the idea, so it's not going away. However, since it seems like such a major distractor, I'm definitely going to work on some things to establish it more as a background element, something visibly nonessential to the comic. That's unfortunate because I kinda like it having its color scheme prevail over the one of the comic? But compromise is clearly necessary here.

skulls, this was a fun comic and I don't really have much to crit that wasn't mentioned! a few parts looked a little rushed but overall I think it's workin, and it's definitely a fave from you.

reecer, maybe I'm in the minority here but I don't like the borders around your pages and I'd suggest dropping them. they aren't adding anything imo, and are distracting and the size isn't really fitting. otherwise, you got some good stuff happening! I think I'd suggest a little more color cohesion, especially for bgs. like maybe put a low opacity, solid color layer over your bg. I think that plus thinner lines would really help push bgs back! I'd also like to see either, colored lines or no lines for effects such as xia's flames or the green light orbs. your comics are really ambitious and I really do think you're getting better so I hope you keep making stuff!

Reecer: After each Ivyn and jasper comics, i get the impression that they were always a part of Void. They fit so well. your are one of the best scenarists we have in our most recents members

Skulls:.... welp. An intervention is needed. This comic is one of the best kind. Poor Xia is tasting the life of the wealthy indeed.
Big Bro Kurt must intervene lol. (fight me soon)

SKULLS: this has got to be like, my favorite comic from you LOL! Drunk Xia is as hilarious as she is depressing, what an emotional child! i love her expressions and poses, they really emphasized her state. the backgrounds looks great too which is ideal given the context of the story. The light and shadow look a little rushed on the last page, especially on Invyn's face. Also I wasnt always sure if the POV was supposed to be from a camera crew- when she shoved Jasper out, you could have showed her also shoving the crew out, maybe a guy with a boom mic, or at least showed it from the POV of the cameraman on one side of the door or the other, to sell the TV show angle. Other than that this was my favorite thing and i hope Xia can make up with her friends soon! (I'm picturing Greece on a couch at home watching this like "is this the sort of thing where i call her up or give her space???")
REECER: for this comic i think it would have been better if the side borders you used had been images of Lithium, to keep them in theme with the context. Backgrounds are stellar, colours outside were a bit blank but better inside of Lithium. much more vibrant. when Xia summed a fireball, i understand using red to indicate her anger but since her magic is blue the fire might have looked more intense if you coloured the scene in blues, or at least purple. I liked the interaction, I can see him wanting to impart advice onto someone as destructive as Xia and her just as easily not giving a shit what he has to say, though I wonder if the takeaway here is "dont bother" since Xia rejects his advice so harshly and he quits and goes to Italy lol. It felt like it was missing some sort of conclusion but I dont know what. As usual though I did love your dialogue, everyone had their own voice, and I love that he paper airplaned the magic sigil over to teleport lol. Your poses are getting more fluid, though your lighting is still kind of blocky.
Great stuff you guys, i loved them both!

And this is where I’d throw a huge party with my friends... If I had friends!

(I’m on mobile. I’ll write something a bit more helpful when I get home. Otherwise, nice job you two.)

Reecer I wish you would make new borders every time to help match the comic's theme instead of using one generic one for everything.

in the entire 3 weeks it took to make my comic, i listened to the good charlotte song i was explicitly referencing and invoking with the title NOT A SINGLE TIME. it's kind of a tragedy.

hope you enjoy, whenever this battle goes up! shouldn't take the rest of the extended week, don't worry.
