@Skulls Hot diggity ding dang man! Those colors! As a fan of gradients, I super-approve. Plus, you keep everything nicely balanced between warm and cool, and that's a hard thing to do. And the inclusion of heavy shadows is definitely a welcome step-up! I feel like the biggest note I've got is just to take your shadows to the edge of the figure a bit more. While I totally get not wanting to cover some really nice linework, sometimes its just gotta be done for Dat Cohesion. Otherwise it can come out like weird black spots scattered over the body and create contrast in the wrong areas. I'll totally hook you up with some Love & Rockets comics so you can really take your heavy shadows to the next level. But overall, I'm absolutely diggin it.

@Tay I definitely applaud the ambition. Shit I don't even think *I* would be comfortable with an 18 pager over 3 weeks. I'll say first and foremost that your method of coloring is definitely clever as fuck, and I will absolutely stash it away in my inspo folder. And from a character-performance standpoint, your emotional scenes definitely hit the mark, man. Also, I definitely approve of the slow background fadeout before the last page, so the suddenly empty page isn't at all jarring. And A+ for Doge. And now crit-time. Xia's uppercut was definitely the real money-shot of the fight, but putting the rest of the fight next to it really highlights where the fight could be stronger. Absolutely check out the old Fist Of The North Star comics for tips on making impacts really *hurt*. Or Eyeshield 21, but thats mostly good for action-effecting-environment type stuff. And speaking of environment, while I totally get that this is an intentionally empty area, it's still a city. Some signage or smaller landmarks/set-pieces would go a long way in making the setting feel more alive. Overall, absolutely diggin the direction you're goin in, so keep on keepin on!

late comment is late

Skulls: I really like this heavy black contrast look (i wanna try it myself) there are some spots where it needed a bit more work, like Tsumi's face at the bottom of page 5, would have looked fine without the halo on her face edge that sort of cuts her face out over her hair.

otakutaylor: it's a real shame you couldn't finish this, it was a real contender comic and you had some good ideas for the colors going on. I think a bit of tightening could have given you a shorter more focused comic to help you finish. I hope we don't have to wait another 9 months before you battle again!

keep on rocking guys

Skulls: This comic looks lovely! Very nice inks complimented by very nice coloring. There are a couple places during the action sequence where it would have been nice to zoom out and see more of what's going on, like when Tsumi throws Xia into the table in page 7 panel 1 it would have been nice to be able to see Tsumi's entire body. Also, in page 3 when Xia starts her interrogation, her first round of questions seems very abrupt and unnatural, especially since she doesn't even pause for a beat to give Tsumi time to answer (or refuse to answer) any of them. It might have been good to just start out with "I'll be interrogating you..." and then Xia asks those other questions afterward, as if she's trying to make the "interrogation" seem more casual.

Taylor: I like the shading you have started out on some of your pages. It's really making the characters pop and I'm sure it would look great with the full colors. Your characters are also super well-drawn. That panel where Xia punches Tsumi in page 12 is so good. I thought it felt like there was way too much talking in this comic, though. There's that old writing adage – "Show, don't tell." There was a lot of telling going on here. Like, in pages 16 and 17, the dialogue felt more like you trying to get the audience up to speed on past events and explaining to us how the two of them have changed as characters, rather than Xia and Tsumi having a natural conversation that shows us the changes in these characters more subtly through their physical actions as well as their speech. You did it better in page 13, where Tsumi gets down on her knees to apologize. We don't always need to hear the entirety of a character's thought process when they're at a crucial turning point. It's usually better to leave that between the lines.

i really enjoyed your comic, even tho it wasn't finished, i don't care. I kind of expected Tsumi to eventually tell someone of Lithium of her condition

::sniffles:: My gosh skulls, I need to like... Cry-thank you or something. Your comic was excellent. The characterization of Tsumi was farther than I wanted to go, and yet it was exactly what she needed.

AAAH These are both so good! And so damn sad!

@Skulls: I REALLY love those colors they are so beautiful! And the use of black for heavy shadows! My only nitpick would be that sometimes the panels seem a bit too narrow for the action that is going inside them, like panel 2 page 6. Also, again a nitpick, but page 9 could have used a establishing shot of the place Kurt was at? But that is all, it was an excellent work and OUCH at Xia getting thrashed! That even hurt me!

@Taylor: Oh man! Too bad you didn't get to finish it because I really loved the story! Poor Tsumi, she is too pure for all this! Also I loved the colors you used for the sky, they are really beautiful!

Uploaded~ Couldn't make as much use out of the extension as I would have liked, but at least the story is complete.
