Thanks for the awesome battle, Kent! I worked hard to up my game for you, and it looked like it paid off. I definitely felt inspired by your panelling when I was working on my comic. :)

Wow, thanks Puzzlething! I admit that I really struggled with the backgrounds in this comic. I'll be sure to pay attention to the location before I start drawing thousands of people into it hahah. I kind of shot myself in the foot by leaving the actual architecture of the ballroom until the very end, because it limited what I could do with it and how the characters fit into it. Just let that be a lesson to anyone else who has the same problem I did!

As for rendering, yeah, that was pretty much 100% me running out of time. I intended to add shadows, more highlights, and light from the lasers and electric lance, but some stuff came up and I just had to turn in what I had. So I'll be more careful with how much I try to do within a set time frame so I can really polish my stuff up. Also, I like the idea of a finished gesture drawing for Ancelin. I'll have to practice gesture drawings and fashion illustration so I can get a better feel for that.

Thanks for the crit, dude! That made me feel so happy and gave me a lot to chew on!

Kent              -

It's a little hard to critique this, because I think trying to do two fights at once totally came back to bite you in the ass. It feels a little rushed. However, there is totally some stuff you're starting to do which I a lot. I think your facial expressions are getting way better. Before I felt like you had a certain set of expressions you'd cycle through as you needed them, but here most of the expressions are unique and well considered. Ray himself is just super fun to watch.

I really really like when you start playing around with varying your base line weight on page 8. I still think you could go for more expressive line work, but even taking this step looks so much better.

As always, I love your storytelling and writing. I'll probably end up saying that p much every fight you throw down, but I'm sure you don't get sick of hearing how much fun it is to read your stories.

Bobo                     -

Dude, I finally get to read your stuff! You've been teasing us so much recently! And now that it's finally up wooowwwowowow, you've gotten so much better dude.

You need to be super careful about your structure, especially on Ancelin. When you draw a character that thin, it's really easy to lose sight of proper form. The places where it looks the worst are her joints. You need to make sure you use overlaps properly otherwise it really flattens her out. I totally approve of the idea of trying to make Ancelin look almost like a fashion illustration (I'm super into fashion drawings), but I think you need to go study up on that syle a little bit if you wanna pull it off. That kinda stuff is all about gesture and movement, it's a very active style. Think of Ancelin as a more complete/polished gesture drawing. Trying working in more twist, torsion, and contrapposto into her body language.

Your environments feel a little bare. Normally, I would hesitate to bring this up when someone mentions they ran out of time, but I actually think this might be your intended final state. And that's only because of the astounding level of attention that you're paying to your background characters. Like, if this was properly tagged the list would be way longer. The second time through, I suddenly noticed the mini-story in the background where Xia has to knock Wizzie out to keep her from joining the fight. I love stuff like that so much! I wish you had put the same amount of thought and attention into the ballroom itself.  It's little more than a square box for this story to take place in. There are so many ways you could've gone: converted gymnasium, cheesy low rent, posh as hell, ultra modern etc etc. Establish in your head an idea you want to get across with the environment,  a feeling. Write it down if you have to, to remind you of the filter you're pushing your ideas through.

I actually am unsure whether or not I should comment on your rendering stuff, because that does feel like it's what got caught in the end of the deadline. As a general rule though, if your strokes are going to be visible, those lines need to always describe form.  You're fine with it most of the time, but on some spots where you need to make larger areas of light (Mr Big usually) your strokes become less controlled.  Also, I think it's a weird choice that you've got two dudes using weapons based on light, and yet those weapons never actually cast light on anything in the comic. Little thing at the end here, did you intend to place any shadows or darker toning down before you finished? I think that would've helped make the pages easier to read, but I have no idea if you just ran out of time.

I feel like every time I see your comics now you're pushing yourself so hard, and it's amazing dude. I feel like it's gonna be no time at all before you're just unapproachably good. The story was a great, short action piece. I love how Ray is already wearing his suit, like getting in Kaiju fights is something that just happens to him on his way to everywhere, and that was a perfect way to end the comic and give him his scar. Ray would totally do something that dumb. And that Poor Kaiju! How could you try to slay such a cutie!

Again, really impressive stuff dude. I hope every time I pull up a comic from you it's this surprising.

Wicked battle!
Kent: Your comic felt a little jumpy, maybe the fact that the game was so short it felt like it was a bit of a wasted opportunity? There was some great potential for some more action based gags and character interaction because you are really good at that sort of stuff but I definitely think you can push it further.
I am a real fan of your stuff and the clean precise style is definitely part of that, but I definitely think a bit of grit, texture and lighting could help your work pop that much more. I'm not talking about a texture overlay but actual drawn in elements such as fabrics of clothes few more bits of dirt, shadow, you know, some of the uglier parts of real life.
Bobo: Is this the same fucking guy whos battles I was looking at a few months ago or is someone else drawing your comics for you? Your draughtmanship has improved massively in my opinion.
I really like the highlights you added to certain elements of some parts.
The colouring with this comic is definitely working, I think maybe you could add some shadows in your colouring, or general darker grey/purple tones to make other elements stand out in a different way to the highlighted bits, like the swarming tide of alien worms for example. As they just aren't as menacing as they should be as they don't have any real weight or depth to them.

You guys are so cool, scar matches are the way to go!

Less than three days left, Kent! I hope your comic is coming along as well as mine is! :)

I can't wait to see your attempt to scar Ancelin before Ray's body gets mangled by giant monsters and/or electric lance burns. >:D

Don't worry, Kent, we've got a plan for how we're going to wreck that beautiful body of Raygun's... heh heh heh...

Also, I'm sad to hear that you won't be pumping out constant comic battles after these matches. I'll miss your stuff this Summer!

Red: This is ending at the same time Ray vs Somadis is ending! What if Ray loses both matches and he gets 2 scars that conflict each other!??? Or what if I chop off his left arm and and Bobo chops off his right!??? Oh poor Ray!! You better fight hard, Kent :0
