Fighting Style: A mixture of Capoeira and Muy Thai
Weapon: Magnetically and magically driven piston-powered knightsticks that can be joined together
to form hooked bo staff. They pack a huge punch and often help to even the playing field
between Rico and a mystical horror.
Other things: Rico can toss his hat a small distance for a quick relocation of his body.
Background: Rico may dress like a beach bum, but he is a student of one of the strongest
guardians of his world. Assigned to watch over a specific portion of the planet the guardian
kept away threats both physical and ethereal. In one such encounter, where most people would
have, and did, run for cover, Rico stepped forward, even though he stood no chance he
managed to distract the threat long enough for the guardian to gain the advantage and win.
Suprised at the temerity of a bystander, especially one that walked up to a half formed
phase demon and punched it in one of its many faces, the guardian decided to take Rico, who may
have been slightly drunk at the time, as his student, determined not to waste bravery.
Taking his student, who immediately showed a supremely bad, almost negative nack for mastering
any kind of magic, the guardian set out on the long road of training Rico in the physical
aspects of their stewardship. Rico was a quick learner in the martial arts and weapons
drills that were given to him, when he did them. The guardian was left with a conflicting feeling of both pride and disappoint as his student excelled at his training while still trying to slack off as much as possible, or take huge unnecessary risks. Rico transformed during a fight, showing a passion for the battle that would often take his enemies completely by surprise, often though there would be a surprising heavy undertone on unluckiness, the harder Rico would try the worse it would become.
Knowing that the strange mixture of fierceness, carelessness, and misfortune could be a danger to Rico but also
something that could be harnessed, the guardian moved his student's soul from inside his body and locked it into the much worn baseball cap Rico always wore, in this way Rico would never actually fully die; his body could be destroyed, but as long as the hat remained, his student would reform; now being a vessel for a soul, the hat was then largely indestructable.
At first excited by the prospect of not having to worry about death, Rico quickly found out that unless he fought and fought hard when needed, the pain of repeated devourings by multi-mouthed dimensional beasts was not fun.
After years of practice Rico was able to master a way of using the more distant connection between his body and his soul to perform short 'teleportations' as he throws his hat and his body catches up to it.
Now at approaching his 124th birthday Rico is a seasoned, if albeit unwilling, veteran of many tough fights, and mostly, is an asset to the guardian.
