Mimi's reasons for ending up in Void City are painfully simple- she heard Void was a place where 'actions speak louder than words'. What better place to make a living? She'll soon find out what she thinks and what actually is in this city is very different.
Human mimes (more popularly known in their pretentious circles as the Mime Mafia) have been running her out of every town she's tried to settle into. You cant really compete with a cartoon and they've tried countless times to kill her, but she's unkillable. Bullets, poison, etc is something she reacts to comically and they've been wracking their brains for a method she can't put a funny twist on so that it'll actually work. They loathe her comedic take to miming- something they believe should remain stuffy and uninteresting as it was and always should be.
